I'm not really on either side of the fence on this issue, but the unnecessary ferocity of the people thinking that defending up 3 is utterly stupid annoys me. Will good statistical analysis finally shut you guys up, at least a little?

The key is: whatever risk there is in giving up a game-tying 3 is outweighed by the chance of a fouling loss. And in any case, you're splitting hairs.
