Do not think it will just simply go back to the pre-Calhoun era school that it was.Actually there are a number of reasons that I'll try to name:

1. UCONN basketball program is not the same as it was before Calhoun arrived. 4 final Fours, 3 National championships all within the last 12 years. Look what winning did to Indiana's program back in the day, it went from a no name basketball program to a national powerhouse in basketball. The effects of winning during Bob Knights time there still have ramifications today several decades afterwards. Indiana has sucked for the past couple of decades (to put it politely) especially for a national powerhouse program yet they still have one of the strongest fan bases in all of America and all the analysts are foaming at the mouths now that they are once again a top 20 team. Because of what Calhoun has been able to do at UCONN for the past quarter of a century we can at least expect the very same for UCONN, if (and a highly doubtful if) UCONN basketball starts to go south for a while after Calhoun.

2. Similar to point 1 think of the tens of thousands of UCONN graduates who have graduated as well as CT residents who have lived in CT during UCONN's amazing run in both womens and mens basketball in the past two decades. The fan base has come to expect excellence and the fanbase alone will not let the program to go back to irrelevancy. Just look back a few months ago when a private donor donated 5 million dollars to the practice facility and another booster donated 3 million to soccer. We have avid, loyal, die hard fans and because of being located in the richest state in the richest country in the world, having a state university in CT comes with some perks ;)...Also CT has the highest percentage of youth leaving the state because its hard to find employment for college educated youth in CT, this means we have a very strong national following.

3. Speaking of a basketball practice facility, we are well on our way to getting started on (from what I hear) an extremely amazing, basketball facility for both mens and womens basketball. Look what our sick football facilities have done for recruiting for our still young and up in coming football program, every recruit no matter whether they commit or not raves about it, think about what a sick facility would do to a top notch basketball program?... think about it Doris when you have stopped day dreaming about Kemba smiling at you last year.

4. Calhoun has developed a basketball system, that has produced like no other schools in the past 12 years. We have won more championships then any other school program in that time even while teams like Duke, UNC and kentucky get 5 star recruits yearly. This system also produces a lot of NBA players, who make a lot of money, most kids commit to schools because they want to best position themselves to get a chance of making it to the NBA. Calhoun not only has a system but has developed a UCONN family of coaches both head and assistant coaches, that can continue this system of awesomeness.

5. Speaking of assistant coaches, Kevin Ollie, who many believe will take the reigns of the program after Calhoun has already shown he can recruit in his first year. He was the main coach in recruiting Daniels, an amazing feat after UCONN wasnt even on Daniels radar a top 10 talent who had big time programs all over him, ollie was able to do that withou Daniels having even visited campus.

6. This post is getting really long, even though I can continue Ill leave it with a link. University of Washington was able to land a home and home with UCONN and just look at the fans (that is Washington) comments of how excited they are to play such a big time program (UCONN)

These games will be set for 2013 and 2014 seasons...doesn't sound like such a fragile program to me Doris.

Doris even though overall I think you are decent analyst and I dont have anything against you, sometimes you just give me a headache...and make me wanna write really long posts refuting your ...hmmm...not smart... comments

We have a home and home with Washington? Sweet. The OOC home games the past few seasons have really sucked aside from Texas in 2010.

I wished we had signed a hoops and pigskin with them.

That would've been awesome. I really enjoyed playing home and homes with schools for basketball and football. I believe we have done this with Indiana, North Carolina, Georgia Tech and we're in the middle of that with Michigan and Tennessee.

Some really solid schools to have on your schedule for football and basketball. Wish we did more of this.

Indiana had two titles before Knight (1940, 1953).

Otherwise, I agree with much of what you are saying.

I don't blame Calhoun for turning down the sound when she does UConn games. There obviously is no love lost there on either side.

This is my list from a few weeks back. Fragile programs do not have these assets.

Money. Donors. Corporate sponsors.
Strong support of the university administration and community
Strong fan interest
Strong media coverage
A national reputation as a winner highlighted by numerous NCAA banners
A strong and deep athletic department that produces multiple national championships in multiple sports
World class facility coming on-line
A string of NBA alumni and first round draft choices
Located in the basketball rich northeast just hours from New York, Boston, Philly recruiting grounds
An ascending academic reputation

She says what 75% of th epeople here say about what will happen to the program when Calhoun leaves, and you jump all over her? I don't happen to agree with the doom and gloom scenario (unless Ollie gets the job, then i'm less confident in the short term) but most posters here actually agree with her. They just don't use the term "fragile."
