Hey Coach D

Suggestion.

Assign someone to look at the play clock.

Just a suggestion.
Bob, I think you need to get plays in better... if you need help, ask Mike McCarthy of the Pack...of course, BS is not yet Aaron Rogers...

Well that was painful to watch. There are about 65 players that have got to be dreading film room when the coaches play the clip, rewind, play the clip, "see that?" "Let's look again." Rewind. Play. Rewind.

Lots to learn from and improve.

I'll take the W. 5-5.

I'm thinking only about 30 players will be dreading the film. Defense did a great job, albeit against a poor Tulane offense.

A win is a win. "How about them 5-5 Huskies?!"

Art, You're underestimating because we won. Plenty to look at on D too. And kicks.

This game gave me bad memories of film room many many moons ago. "Here lets look at that again." Rewind. "That's you." Start. Pause. "Watch what you do." Start. Pause. " Look at that." Start. Pause. "Did younsee it? Let's look again to make sure." Rewind.

Players gonna want to forget this game, but they can't. Way too much to correct going into bye week.

It was a good win.

Lest anyone misconstrue my commentary as negative - it's not.

#1. It certainly seems to be that whatever level our offense is at, whether it be 100 or 200 course level, the concepts of play clock management are not in the current curriculum. I think it would be better to restructure the curriculum sooner than later. THe clock management at the end of the game was not too bad.

#2. There were so many mistakes in this game that it's a bit numbing. Blocked kicks, poor blocking, blown up protections, defenders standing lke statues and reaching for arm tackles, missed coverages (we benefitted from dropped balls quite a bit - as did they)

It's a repeat of the Villanova game almost, now that I think of it. We made less mistakes than they did - and we won. Period.

Lots, and lots of stuff to be improving on.

But it's a great win. A character win. A gut win. On the road, in crap weather, with no one in the stands but friends and family, tired, sore after 10 straight weeks of ball. They gutted it out.

We are NOT going to win games regularly, by allowing the other team to keep our offense and kicking game in a shutout. Doesn't work that way. But we pulled it off in the one game we needed to this season.

Good job Huskies.

After our last big win we laid an egg. We won a game with the O scoring 0. That isn't easy. On the road. In a shitstorm. Would have been so simple to lay down.

They fought and won. I will evaluate the offense in better conditions. The D was one stupid tackle away from pitching a 0.

Well you could say Summers trying too hard for the take away instead of the tackle on 3rd down that led to their only points.
We need an inspirational video it's been WAY too long, I miss popping helmets and music

Such as?
Stewart should have fallen on that strip by Carrezola deep in Tulane territory late in the game instead of trying to get a scoop and score.

If you wanted to be specific....

Agreed. But that and the missed tackle might literally be it on the defensive side.

We had several decent drives blunted by bad holding penalties where Shirreffs was trying to make up the yardage through runs. He came up short in a few of them because of the stupid penalties.

This game gets put int the rear view and not watched.

What they need to do more than anything else is watch extra film on Houston.

Two things really stood out that need to be addressed immediately. 1) watch the ball into your hands and squeeze. Bloom's drop was virtually a sure 6 points. 2) cut out the self destructive penalties. Can't really judge the offense on much more on a day like that.

There is no guarantee you will recover a fumble by falling on it especially on wet turf in a rainstorm. Scooping and scoring would have been absolutely huge. I think it was a good gamble.

Every coach going to have their own approach, and having witneseed 2 years almost now of Diaco's love machine, you're probably right. I doubt they would completely ignore the video, that's not smart, but yoi're probably right that they won't beat it to death. Its probably over by now anyway-film review.

What concerns me now, is that this is the first bye week of Diaco's head coaching career when he's actually trying to lead the program to wins.

I'll just use Edsall's tenure as an example, because its the most recent and relevant winning history to look at.

Edsall treated bye weeks as an opportunity to haveva week of training camp in mid season to drill the fundamenrals. Blocking and tackling technique. Skill fundamrntal technique. Perfecting the bread and butter play calls of the offense and defense framework.

Bye weeks weren't easy - but we do have to balance healing and rest, with contact practice.

We'll see. I hope that this is one of the things that Diaco gets right on his first try, because if the next 2 weeks of preparation, practice and program development are done well, we have the opportunity to play a late November home game for bowl eligibility against a warm weather team.

Historically, when we were successful, this is a game we not just win, but can dominate. Even during the PP years, November at home is UCONN football winning time.

All that said,

My suggestion still stands for coach booby. Assign somebody to watch the play clock. As long as somebody is paying attention, things will improve over time by default.
