I was just pondering Coach G's struggles to duplicate her success at Texas and wondered how many high profile coaches have left a successful situation to take over another program and have done just as well, if not better, at the second job. Kurt Budke, God rest his soul, comes to mind as someone that did well. Any others?

How about CViv, twice?

Actually, what Budke did was have some success in a high profile, rebuilding job. Wins and Losses were actually better at La Tech and I think probably his JC experience also.

That would be true of a lot of coaches, where success on the job - even if less than their prior position - is at an upgraded job. Of course, GG didn't really "upgrade" her job.

Vivian is also an acceptable answer. Although her winning percentage is less at Rutgers than Iowa, she has had slightly more NCAA success.

WBB has way too small a sample size for this. The money hasn't been good enough at enough schools for coaches to job hop.

Freese has done well after some success at Minnesota and Ball State. It still hurts that she left my Alma Mater (Ball State).

Geno Auriemma. Tonya Cardoza. Quinton Hillsman. John Calipari and Jim Calhoun on the men's side. Then there is the classic case of Vince Lombardi, whose only previous head coaching job (before Green Bay) was at a parochial high school in New Jersey.

Joanne McCallie at Mich St/Duke.

There have been few BCS to BCS coaching changes in WCBB.
Two are just getting started: Boyle at Cal/UVa and Caldwell at UCLA/LSU
The only others I can think of are CVS, GG, Jim Foster, Blair.

That would be Maine - Michigan State - Duke
