.....and retire?

How does he recruit next 2 years with kids knowing no tourney in '13 and '14 almost certainly Calhoun's final season. JC has earned the right to do whatever he wants but a wrong move sets program back a few years. What kid comes here not knowing who's the coach in sophmore year? JC built UConn hoops and is one of the greatest coaches in history but it has to end someday.

IMO if a top-notch coach(shaka?) is on board knowing 2013 tourney unlikely then JC should call it a day. That would help recruiting big time and 2014 going forward the program shouldn't miss a beat. In the very least they should state Kevin Ollie will be the coach when JC leaves if he is the choice.

JC got his 3rd championship....what is left for him to accomplish? He'll be miserable next year if he stays and in my opinion a wasted opportunity to transition the program.

wtf? how does retiring when your school is banned from the post season riding off into the sunset? and what kind of message does that send to the kids and the fans to bail when it got bad? (caliper??) Thats a no, if it doesn't get overturned thats one year out of the tourney... '12-'13, also he's allowed to go when he wants and why does everyone want shaka? bc he made a run once? i don't like his style or brad stevens and the recruits they bring in... id like to assess all options with ollie and whoever calhoun wants in the forefront

If they're going after Shaka Smart or someone else for 2013-14, then JC should coach next season. If they want Ollie to be the coach, then Ollie should take over right away and get to start his coaching career with a nice, pressure-free season.

I just can't see Calhoun leaving with this cloud hanging over his legacy. I think he stays to clear it up and make another run, even if that takes another three years.

UConn is a target bc the media hates Calhoun. Why? Bc he is a REAL man and doesn't kiss reporters ass to please people. In fact he tells the haters to duckk off. JC is a champion and he will be back, and he will another National Championship.

Go after Shaka now, start fresh. He can build his own legacy from the ashes.

A fourth national championship might be an appropriate time to retire. Quitting is just not an option!

Why are we not be eligibile two years from now? I thought the ban was just for next year.

I am really amazed that people are treating a one-year postseason ban as if it's the death penalty.

News for the world -- we will play thirty games in 12-13, we will have a chance to win the Big East regular season title and we will have a chance to be ranked. NC State dealt with the ban the year before David Thompson and crew stopped UCLA's championship streak by going undefeated and making everyone wonder if they were the best team in the country that year. We want to deal with it by whining, moaning and crying.

Are ACC fans tougher than us?

To paraphrase that great philosopher Otter, "This requires a totally futile gesture. And we're just the guys to do it."

I have a better idea......How about Hi-Low retires from making moronic comments on the board.

I don't get this either but I should, considering that twenty months ago many on the old Boneyard bought in to all of the doom and gloom that was being spewed, thinking that we would never be competitive again.

All I can say is thank God that JC is a lot tougher and has far more resiliencey and backbone than the average boneyarder.

I'd feel a bit more for JC if he had taken just a tiny bit of the blame for all of the problems surrounding the program. He accepted none of it and threw as many people under the bus as he felt it necessary. He's convinced himself and the puppies that none of it was his fault. I'm torn. That "screw 'em all" attitude is probably what it took to get to the top. No one enjoyed the ride more than me. But that same attitude is what's dragging us back down to where we came. JC could make the transition easier if he wanted to, but it doesn't look like he wants to. That quote from Cocktail that Simmons loves to use is definitely in play, "everything ends badly, otherwise it wouldn't end."

you don't have to worry about or for Jim Calhoun, and he'll be miserable if he walks away

the only way he'll be happy is to leave on top, with his program in good shape, with his hand picked successor ready to take over

stated simply, he ain't going anywhere and he shouldn't go anywhere
