Happy new year.

I'm a UConn grad with a nephew currently attending NC State. For my birthday this year, he's getting us tix for the NC / NC State in Chapel Hill (DeanDome) and was wondering if any of ya'll have any worthwhile advice while making the visit.

Many thanks in advance.

Wear as much husky apparel as possible.

I had the best steak in my life at The Beefmaster in Wilson last year, but its approximately 45 min. outside Raleigh.

I have two bits of advice. Talk your nephew into transferring and get an aisle seat so you can make your way to the exits more easily when NC's lead reaches 30. Seriously though, enjoy the game. I almost moved to North Carolina for work a few years ago and have always wanted to experience a Carolina rivalry game. They're pretty crazy.

The Dean Dome doesn't have much character. It makes the XL Center seem like Cameron Indoor. But definitely worth a visit to cross off your list. Maybe your next visit there will be for a Huskies league game?!?

Head to Franklin St. which is on the edge of the campus. Have a beer at Top of the Hill Rest.& Brewery. There are a lot of places to get a bite to eat before the game on Franklin St.
10-15 minute walk to the dome from there.

Ate at Pyewacket on Franklin last time I was there. The place will clear out 30-40 minutes before game time so just follow the crowd to the Dean Dome. The Dome
has no character at all. Always preferred Carmichael Auditorium (I'm over 60). Woman play there now, I believe.

Top of the hill has some of the worst microbrew i've had...way overrated and it's a very pompous crowd (food's not bad though, and has a good view of Franklin). Franklin street is cool if you want to hit up the college bars, in which case you are required to cap your night off at Timeout and get a chicken cheddar biscuit.

Mama Dips is the spot to get breakfast (famous fried chicken). Breadman's is a good breakfast spot too (I like it better personally). My personal favorite restaurant here is Squids (oyster bar/seafood joint) pretty much everything on the menu is good. As far as good bars/beer your best bet is to go to Raleigh. Flying Saucer has a huge selection of beers, but can be hit or miss what's on tap. Your nephew probably knows most of the spots there.

I live in chapel hill so feel free to ask any questions and hopefully I can be helpful
