I'm really surprised that he resigned when all he had to do was ride the pine with no expectations this season in order to pass Rupp and Smith on the wins list. If it were all about him he probably would have. I find that very impressive. (then again I'm petty so...)

He couldn't just ride the pine, it isn't in his nature. He also couldn't push himself through what was necessary with his hip and coach the way he always coached.

Yeah, and apparently he didn't prioritize putting 7 more wins next to his name over doing what he thought was the right move at the right time for himself and the program.
