Absolutely. Guys that don't need to have their ball in the hands constantly but can defend and play effeciently are at an absolute premium.

Hawkins will be an All big east defender his sophomore year--mark it down now.

Not at all. More natural shooting stroke. I thought Purvis worked to become a good shooter (credit to him).

Easy scorer vs. a max effort guy. Loved Purv too, they just don't seem similar. But others may see it different.

I thought I would be the only one to see it. Purvis definitely busted tail to improve, crazy heart. I hope you are right and this kid is more of a natural though! Hard to make out much at all from the short clips I've seen.

Very excited for this kid. From the film I’ve seen, I can buy the “Baby Ray” nickname. Shooter who excels at moving without the ball. Also a big time athlete, but his game is so smooth that it doesn’t always jump out at you. He will knock down a few jumpers & then out of seemingly nowhere, explode to the rim for a vicious dunk.

Handle in this video is very encouraging - if he continues to improve there, as well as with his 3 point consistency, he may wind up being Hurley’s first 5* by the time he arrives on campus.

Hawkins also played on Oct. 16 as part of the DMVelite Fall Showcase, where he scored 20 points and dished out 5 assists in a 57-52 win. He was really good the entire 2nd half but was especially impactful late, scoring or assisting on the final 12 points of the game to seal the victory for his team. Hawkins was by far the best player in this game.

7:23: fast break dunk
13:22: left-handed layup in transition
18:12: splits double team, pull-up jumper from free-throw line

23:06: makes two FTs to lock up win

Handle looks better, if still not great. Ridiculous shooter and an efficient player. I really like that he doesn't require much dribble to get his points.
