Oahu is the most metropolitan and has the most shopping (which is of no interest to me but I actually know someone that likes Oahu the best because of the shopping. I wanted to go to Oahu to see the Arizona Memorial but we spent much of our time on the north shore which was more quiet and laid back. Kauai is probably the most scenic. We did a helicopter ride that was awesome (although there are some safety concerns) went four-wheeling and some short hikes. If you were to only go to one island Maui might be the best one. It's got everything from hiking/nature, water sports, excellent dining, golf, you name it. I hope to get to the big island one day as I'd like to see an active volcano.
