Call me crazy, but I think Hasheem still has the potential to be a decent defensive center in the NBA.

What I don't understand is that when he was drafted, everyone knew he was going to be a project, yet he was/is criticized for not performing to lofty expectations even though he's only been in the league 3 seasons.

When you look at his career per 36 minutes his line is: 8pts 55 fg% 9 reb 3 blks 2 tos 7 fouls.

So obviously he fouls too much and turns the ball over too much, but if given the chance to get a little more burn I think he could surprise some people.

If he was even 3" shorter he probably wouldn't even be playing. He's been just too slow and methodical. No game IQ. Another year at UConn would have helped him immensely, but when you're the family breadwinner it's impossible to turn down that kind of money. Wish him the best also. Hope he decides to put in some real hard work this time around.

That's not crazy, that's exactly what I was going to say.

I think he was criticized more for being the worst big man in the league than for not living up to lofty expectations.

Not that there's any comparison, but it's crazy to me how Thabeet can be so dominant in the D-League, yet he can't stay on an NBA court for 2 minutes without becoming a liability. Just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Anyway, I'm happy to see he landed in a good situation. As a Celtics fan it was amazing to see the C's coaching staff turn Ryan Hollins into a semi-useful player, so I'm hoping the Thunder can do the same (and then some) for Thabeet's career.

Funny, I always thought three years ago that he would be a better fit in Ok City...of course that was pre-Perkins but it won't take much of an improvement to be better than Nazi Mhmd or Cole Aldrich...other advantage is that IKC would not need any offense out of HT, given their other offensive stars

I wish that were true, but with playing time earned he needs much more. I would say a personal coach (i.e. big man) and some practice time work with a quality big on the same team. In other words someone to make him better, he can't do it on his own. He has a career as a journeyman but he can be much more than that with the right investment. Hopefully OKC will commit to him as they seem to value youth.

He will serve as a backup to Ibaka / Perkins. If he was looking for more PT, im not sure he'll get it in OKC. Though I agree PT will do him a world of good

Hasheem is Exhibit A to JC's assertion that you need to be ready to play in the NBA when you enter the draft since it's the 2nd contract where you need to be able to make some good money. Hasheem is now playing for a 2 year minimum contract. If he doesn't produce anything during these 2 years he's probably out of the NBA.

What team could he go to where he would play a ton of minutes? Hopefully the light clicks for him but you can't play him for an extended period of time because he proves to be a liability on the floor with his poor defensive rotations and lack of boxing out on the glass. I would've liked to have seem land with the Kings just to be able to work with Clifford Ray. I'm not really all that impressed with OKC's development of their bigs, Mullens and Aldrich were first round picks and they gave up on Mullens pretty quickly and Aldrich has shown nothing in 2 years. I know Ibaka has improved but he's not all that technically sound, he chases everything trying to get blocks, doesn't box out that great and can still improve as a rebounder, and hasn't show much improvement on offense with his back to the basket.

If it is going to happen for him, it will happen here. Whether he gets a lot of run or not, OKC is known for intense practice sessions, and going up against Ibaka and Perkins will be great for development. If he does not want to put in the work, they will dump. It is all on him now.

I definitely think that he hasn't gotten nearly as much playing time as he should have in the past few years. I think OKC is going to be a great place for him to learn. Scott Brooks is great coach and I'm sure that Ibaka will be a great mentor.
