It's for winning the SEC title.

No, it's for winning the regular season title. If they won it on the road would they have cut down the nets?

I do understand the tourney title on a neutral court. But this was unusual.

So if UConn wins at ND will they cut down the nets?

I have heard of it happening before but I don't believe TN did it in the past. It was mostly since TN clenched the regular season outright at home and was mostly for the fans. They never would have cut down the nets at an away game though. It was also special since it was Holly's first regular season win as a head coach.

Also Baylor cut down the nets after they beat TX this season to win the Big 12 regular season.

In the case of the UCONN Women, I believe they do not cut down the nets for BE Regular or Tourney Champs nor for NCAA Regional Champs. They only cut down if National Champs.

That must have been instituted since the 2008 season. I was in Greensboro @ the Rutgers/UCONN regional final.... and i do believe they cut down the nets.... Im 99.934 % sure they did.

You're correct. Sometimes Geno lets them cut down the nets for reaching the Final Four and sometimes he doesn't depending on the circumstances. In 2008 UConn had reached the Final Four for the first time since 2004 and the first time in all of the players' careers. So they cut down the nets. If he feels like the team is a legitimate national championship contender then he doesn't let them cut down the nets.

I don't believe they cut down the nets in any of the four subsequent Final Four trips since 2008. It's not that UConn never does, but that they rarely do it. And UConn hasn't cut down the nets for a regular season or tournament conference title for probably a decade if not two.

UTenn played a spirited, upbeat, joyous game last night against a decent team that didn't give up.

Holly came in with into the toughest coaching assignments imaginable and with Pat hanging around for goodness sake and bettered by far the expectations of those who thought she was just an interim.

She developed the freshmen, she found something in Kamiko Williams that eluded Pat and her staff and Simmons even passes the ball once in a while.

Kudos to her and kudos to the kids.

They want to cut the nets...good on them.

I asked if anyone has ever seen this done before. Have you? And I didn't take anything away from their fine season to date. Not sure why you felt the need in this thread to kiss orange butt.

Just wondering what freshman she developed beside Graves, who was as good as advertised.

Of course not. I don't believe they have ever cut down nets for winning the regular season title. Ever.
Maybe the first time they won the conference but not since they entered the national stage.
