When Stewie has the ball and has no chance in hell of making a basket she will 9 out of 10 times shoot the ball rather than pass it to an open KML. In fact, has anyone else noticed how she rarely will look for KML? There were at least three different points where Stewie forced a shot while being harassed when KML was open. One point Stewie threw up a three and I just thought pass it to KML and it would be a real three....

Stewie never sees a shot she doesn't like. She's an unconscious shooter.

I think she's under instruction aggressively to look for her shot. She's demonstrated over and over that she's not a selfish player, and there were times when the staff thought she was unselfish to a fault. The team is helped by the defensive attention she draws, regardless.

Using a bad shooting day as the occasion for saying she should've passed it more is 20/20 hindsight. KML is shooting over .500 on the season, but, BTW, so is Stewie, against stacked defenses. And KML, Stewie and Morgan all have nearly identical assists totals.

So I'd have to disagree with any general proposition that Stewie should be passing more.

I did not see the game today ( but will go watch), but in general, it appears to me that KML is the last option in the offense which is incredulous. Numerous times when she is open, the ball does not get to her. I believe in the prior game, ten minutes or so passed and she had not attempted a shot - and, this for one of the best if not the best offense players in WCBB this year.
Of all of the times KML has posted up, how many times has she received the ball or better yet, received the ball and shot it. To be fair though, KML has to take ownership for not taking some of the opportunities or creating them. KML appears to be settling for assists and I say settling because that, in my view, is a byproduct of her game - not her game per se itself; her strength is shooting. When KML is shooting, the offense appears to flow better because of the havoc it creates. I just do not see the team reaching its goals this year if KML is not integral and doing what she does best.

Someone would have to review every game to get an accurate answer to the original question.
From a statistical point of view Stewart has 26 assists this season and 3 are on KML baskets. Of those three assists two were in the first game of the year vs UC Davis. In fact the very first play of the year was Stewart assisting on a KML basket.
To continue on, of Stewart's 26 assists, 4 were in the Creighton game that KML sat out with the sniffles. So Stewart has had 22 assists in the other 9 games. There are 6 other players with most of the time on the court. So if Stewart's assists were equally distributed among all six(KML, Nurse, Mo Jeff, Chong, Stokes and Tuck) she would average 3plus assists per player(4 assists would be too many). So 3 assists from Stewart to KML is not out of the ordinary.

My answer to the original question is NO.

I agree; I'm skeptical about that claim also, especially for such an incredible shooter. It would strain credulity.

This thread is just crazy. Stewie is 6'4 - so suggest she is taking shots that have no chance to go in - imo is completely crazy. She is 6'4 she can shoot over anyone- KML cannot which is why before Stewie came of age Geno had questioned who is go to player was- then he said it was Stef.

Secondly to suggest UCONN is not trying to get the ball to KML and then citing her post-ups as evidence she doesn't get the ball - is imo just as crazy. What is the percentage of times KML posts vs Stewie posts and Stewie doesn't get the ball? And Stewie is a bigger target and she is a better post.

I'm not sure but somehow I remember a similar thread last year or maybe another time of someone complaining that someone on UCONN was deliberately freezing out another player??????

Stewie knows that for KML to be open, she needs to pull the defense in by being a threat. She needs to be more aggressive, not less...when she is less and floats outside, KML becomes a rebounder...

A tad of irony to what most of us have not noticed...Stewie and KML are courantly tied with 26 assists each. Forth overall on the team. ;)
