The writer and director of two of the greatest comedy movies of all time, Caddyshack and Groundhog Day, has died.

I strongly recommend that any Caddyshack fans watch "Caddyshack: The Inside Story" which I believe runs on A&E periodically. That movie should have been a total disaster. Harold Ramis completely lost control of the cast, with all the big names improvising most of their scenes. The younger members of the cast were partying almost continually during production. Ted Knight was unhappy, because he was supposed to have a bigger role, and was really the only thing holding the movie together and keeping it from becoming a series of stand up comedy routines. It is particularly funny that such a dysfunctional production resulted in such a brilliant comedy.
