Typical of Coach P press conference. She likes to throw her players under the bus, like many other press conferences I have seen. That is one thing I don't like about her. Isn't it her fault that her players do not play with the same intensity in the second half vs the first half, or that they don't hustle.

I continue to be amazed when coaches say UConn works harder then we do and never quit. That's a culture issue, which the coaches have control over. Its not like this is the first time Duke and Coach P has played UConn. This is her 8th season at Duke as well as her 8th regular season meeting of UConn. They've also met in the tournament during this time period. Both teams have been talented during this time period, with I would say an edge to UConn, but no way is there a 28 point difference in talent level.

I thought last nights game would be closer, but I severely under estimated the talent level of Geno's guards in comparison to Duke's guard. They definitely missed Alexis Jones but is she a 31 point difference? I don't think so, but the game would have been closer. While its easy to say on the outside, but I'm Coach P, I don't play UConn next year, but then I make every effort to renew the series. Duke has great guards coming into their program and with their current roster, they WILL be a team to reckon with.

Listening to JPM you can clearly see why they are outplayed, out hustled and lack confidence that they can beat us. It stems from her. She criticized her players repeatedly, but interesting enough, I didn't hear one comment about how the coaching staff didn't prepare the team for this game? It was all on the team. She mentioned that the schedule this year was too hard for them which is one of the reasons they are rotating UConn out. So, she doesn't think that they'll improve and be a better team next year to play ranked teams like UConn, TN, Stanford, etc? Strange logic to me and lack of guts on her part. I can see why they're good, but no where near as successful as we are. She made the comment about our NC banners and they have none. I think she needs to start with looking in the mirror for the answer to that one?

any decent coach would suck it up and simply say that they failed to motivate their players

She said Jefferson hit some wide open 3s that her grandmother could have made.

Coach P has repeatedly said in the past that to be the best you have to play the best. This was her stated rationale for the tough schedule this year. Discontinuing the UConn series now means Duke will not play the best competition available. And if you're not playing the best...then by her logic you're not trying to be the best. Not a great position for a head coach to take.

Duke has some nice pieces... They are gonna be a problem for folks down the road... They have a ton of length... They maintain intensity in the 2nd half of games they could potentially win it all... if not this year they will definitely be scary good next year.. Too bad for them Elizabeth Williams is a SR...

The schedule gets a little boring if it's the same teams all the time. They already have that with conference play. I think it's neat when UConn plays new teams in the out of conference schedule. I like seeing new teams that we've never played before or haven't played in a long time. Duke probably replaces us with Stanford or Tennessee, both good teams. If a team doesn't play UConn, does that mean they don't want to be the best by playing the best? Of course not. Scheduling capacity is finite. We'll start another Duke series, perhaps in 4-6 years.

Sorry, but their body language show defeat much of second half, not intensity.

That's what I said. Once that lead hit 20, they were done. Really Jefferson's and KML's 3 broke them and they threw in the towel and decided they weren't going to play defense with about 7 minutes left in the game. UConn could have won that game by 40 if they wanted.

Definitely was no closer when Uconn beat them with jones. But I get your point given jones would have gain more experience. Nevertheless, Uconn wins by 20 something.

Interesting, talented Notre Dame & Duke head coaches, in after postgame interviews, both reported that their real team did not show up. Strange, I wonder what prevented this ?
Seems to happen to a lot of teams that play UCONN. Maybe it the dressing rooms being full of alien pod people?

From my point of view , Duke played about as well as they could under the intense pressure applied by the UConn guards. Duke has plenty of talent in the frontcourt but lacks experienced guards. By ACC tournament time they could be scary to conference foes. Williams and Stevens are a load to deal with.

Replacing UConn on the schedule seems like a cop-out to me. Duke has had problems beating UConn and has lost by 20+ lately. So they decide its rotation time. One has to wonder if the games were closer would she rotate UConn out ? But its only going to get worse if they meet in the NCAA Tournament. Because outside of maybe ND , Duke will not have seen anything like the Huskies until that fateful Tournament game night.... JMHO

Surprising since she has shown in the past that she can remember numbers.
Not the important ones though, hence the beat downs every season. I will give her credit, she did refer to UConn players by name this time. Plus the media referred to UConn players past (Stef) and present (Jefferson), and clearly the Duke players and coach knew who they were talking about otherwise they wouldn't be able to answer the questions.

I can't fault the notion of series rotation. Coach P explained that in hindsight the early season nonconference schedule was too tough for the young team. It may be that UConn was the only expiring contract. Still, if I am a Coach aspiring to Final 4 and NCs I am not going to chose to drop UConn and miss the chance to measure my players/team against one of the perennial best ( catch the false modesty there?).

They could have used Salvadores last night. She's going to be good for them... a little spitfire that can shoot lights out. I was disappointed we didn't take a chance on her.
