Leave it to Geno to come up with a gem, at least to me. After praising Mir for her hustle and athleticism, he referred to her shooting like a hand grenade.... when the fragments go in all directions. Aside from being the greatest coach, his clever sense of humor stands out. Mir has great hops and really gets in there and battles. I believe the coaching staff will have her playing like a star in a year or two....just wanted to throw in how great the Correa kid from St. Johns looked...even tho a NYer, I don't know anything about her. She is a big time player....if young, I can foresee some big-time school luring...otherwise she should be a WNBA type. I only watch UConn women's games. Go girls!

It’s players like her and Chelsea Dungee from Arkansas coming into the league every year that make it hard for some of the older higher salaried players in the WNBA to keep their jobs. Dungee is a 5th. year senior, so I don’t think she’ll be coming back. Correa is a sophomore. We’ll have to look at her for 2 more years.

The good news is that players like Dungee and Correa are adding some spice to Big East games and adding a little bit more interest to the Big East WBB brand - for both the fans and for good future player prospects.

What does that mean? He was interested but she was not? He wasn't interested enough? How would any major program not want her as a feature player?

It means UConn had interest. I don't know why she ended up at St. John's, but programs have interest in quite a few players, only a select number end up on their roster.

Dungee is in the SEC.
You’re right. I got Dungee and Lauren Park Lane mixed up there. Park-Lane and Correa will hopefully be in the Big East for two more years while Dungee will be in the WNBA in two months. At any rate, I think players like these along with UConn's membership will quite quickly move the women’s Big East up toward a comparable level with the Big East men.

I personally do not get Geno's take on Mir. Unlike Aaliyah who can clear acres of space inside making her shots relatively easy, Mir has to fight over and around bigger players to first get the rebound and then get it to the basket. She makes a good share but even if she does not, she draws fouls so keep launching those grenades Mir.

Hopefully, Geno just wants to get under Mir's skin so she will react with the time tested " I'll show that SOB"

Maybe 'Grenade' is too tough a nickname for the young lady, MM. I think I saw that KW isn't called Squeeks' anymore. Why. don't we start a Contest for a more gentle
nickname for Mir?...She seems like a very likeable kid..& yes, explosive. As I said before, a future star.

I'm prety sure UConn saw her...............I know because I saw CD watching one of her games and I'm pretty sure she wasn't there to watch our kids............but nothing came of it.............from what I remember she chose West Viginia but then transferred closer to home to St Johns.......she was very good in high school but has really improved her shooting skills and increased her aggressiveness to a different level this year.......

I like the way we are improving the professional status of some of our opponents. First Dungee and now Correa. Are we going to do the same for Selena Lott. ;)

I loved the hand grenade comment although I would explain it differently. I don't think it has anything to do with fragments going in all directions. It is more akin to the expression "close only counts in horseshoes, ballroom dancing, and hand grenades". Meaning, when it comes to hand grenades, you don't have to hit your target you just have to be close. In contrast, a basketball shot that is merely close is a miss.
