At .704, it's our own freshman star, Aaliyah Edwards.

Ah, but I was informed that the NCAA only ranks players who have made a minimum of 5 FG's per game played so they do not have Aaliyah ranked, and it's unlikely she will end up qualifying. However, they have a few players who have barely played any games ranked because they made 5+ FG's on average. Their 5th ranked player has only taken 13 more shots than Edwards on the season, but because she took them in just 13 games, she qualifies.

Who came up with that system?

Wait and see what happens during the Big East Tourney. She has 95 FGs in 21 games, so she's 10 short. She needs about 8-9 makes per game to up her average. That could be a challenge.

Tamika Williams shot .704 in her senior year. She exceeded that in 2 other seasons.

Yes, she will have to average between 6.1 and 7.5 field goal makes per game over the next 4-9 to qualify. Not likely. Even Paige only makes 7.76 per game on the season.

Aaliyah is in the official Big East list. She's 1st (.711), and Olivia is 2nd (.640). They are the only players over .600.

5 seems like a high threshold. That obviously equates to at least 10 points, but adding in a typical number of 3-pointers and free throws, that means the player needs to average about 12-14 ppg. Only 18 players in the Big East averaged at least 13 ppg in conference play. That seems too restrictive.

Tamika Williams never qualified for the single-season NCAA lead in field goal percentage despite shooting over .700 three years in a row. But she does hold the career record of .703. Ever since she played, I think of .700 FG
percentage as "Tamika Williams territory", the reverse of the "Mendoza Line". Napheesa Collier is the only other Connecticut player who has come close up to now. Connecticut only requires 2.5 per game, so Edwards will make that easily, but she won't come close to Williams' .759 her junior year.
