@grahamhays: Kentucky Lt. Gov keeps telling Geno Auriemma to sit down. If was Connecticut, Geno outranks him. Not sure about KY #ncaaw

Uconn/Louisville game getting too physical. Something ugly is going to happen if these teams don't settle down.

Having been brought up in KY, I can tell you that the Lt. Gov isn't worth Alben Barkley's (IIRC) description of the Vice-Presidency.

He doesn't even out rank a Kentucky Colonel.

Nope. Both my momma and my older brother are honorary KY Col.'s, and they're both worth more.

Pinot, you must be OLD if you remember Truman's VP. However it was John Nance Garner who said "the vice presidency is not worth a pitcher of spit".

In Texas, the Lt Gov actually has more power in many respects than the Governor, which is mostly a ceremonial and symbolic position.

Of course, a pitcher who uses spit is worth his weight in gold...

Husky, Pinot prefers the term "vintage." He's vintage.

yeah: old vintage. Thanks for the "heads up" on John Nance v. Alben. And, I must confess, I didn't hear the comment first hand. I read about it in history books - old, dusty, vintage history books.;)

Wow the mind wanders. Just wondering how one would obtain a whole pitcher of spit????? Seems like a lot of work...even if you are chewing tobacco.

"how one would obtain a whole pitcher of spit?????"

Grind up some some of my Boneyard posts and add water.

My understanding is, the original quote did not include the word "spit", but, rather, something earthier. It was sanitized for public release.

Still take awhile. ;)

Rhymes with? Spit?

It's always a lot easier if we "whistle while we work". Or humming a tune could really help. Especially when it's aSpit-toon

Some people may be able to, but I don't think I can whistle and spit at the same time. Maybe it's just me?

That explains how they came up with all the incredible spellings! Didn't need hardly any vowels, and combined consonants in ways strange and wondrous!
