What a crappy overview of the game……all from a negative aspect? He is amazingly inconsistent in his reporting…….and I get he wants to do this somewhat on purpose but it's just pitiful in this case by Doug!

Gottlieb is an idiot but I also don't know what Shabazz is talking about with the whole starving issue.

Kentucky played a heavyweight title fight against Wisconsin late Saturday night, had media all day Sunday and had to feel some of that Monday night.

I can believe that Kentucky might have had gotten a little more media attention than UConn on Sunday. They are, after all, ***Kentucky***. But was it that much to make a difference. It was the national championship game. Only 2 teams were left. I don't see how UConn could have had a quiet day on Sunday by comparison.

The point about the KY-Wisc game bothers me more. Did UConn have a bye? Were they playing a HS team? They beat the #1 seed in the tournament on Saturday. Just because they tipped off 2.5 hours earlier doesn't mean they gained some significant advantage.

That section about Shabazz and handling finances was some of the most hypocritical crap I have ever read.

Credit cards, Dougie, credit cards...

"Hungry Huskies" refers to motivation to come back and win a National Championship after being banned. Napier made other comments about going to bed starving, but that wasn't one of them.

Honestly, if you're a member of the UConn basketball team and you go to bed hungry, you've done something wrong. They take extremely good care of their athletes.

And Doug might not have been wrong - I thought Kentucky probably was more tired than UConn.

By the Final Four, all the teams are tired - lots of travel, pressure, etc. UConn's conditioning and speed were major, major factors in the game. UConn was better prepared - they struggled with Wisky while UConn really dispatched Florida relatively easily.

For some reason Gottlieb reminds me of Eric from Billy Madison. Just a weasel.

Back when I was in school at BU in the 1980s, your meal card was only good for 1 meal at cafeteria hours, and afterward, you were given a certain amount to buy food/snacks after hours. When the money ran out in the middle of the month, that was it. You had to wait until it was reupped. But that's why we had some cereal in the rooms. So, it's still hard to believe he was starving but it is more than possible, at least in my experience, that you could not buy food late at night with your meal card.

I thought Gottlieb's article was fair, well-written, and insightful, and complimentary of Uconn, especially its guards. He is one of the few talking heads who picked Uconn to win. I do not find anything malevolent about his game analysis. He did a good job of writing about it. I hope -- as national champions -- we, Husky Nation, should show more poise in handling perceived criticisms and have less superficial skin and not be bickering at the slightest provocation. We are champions for 365 days regardless of what they think and say. It's a done deal, let them live with it.

I think he is just sticking it to the NCAA. The NCAA rarely make sense so why should Bazz? Go get em!

He's talking out of both sides of his mouth. He knows he can't get away without saying anything good, but the negative aspects of this were pretty damn farfetched. You're giving him too much credit.

Not being allowed to work
Not being able to accept even small gifts
Not being at home
Not being allowed access to dining halls after hours
Being up at all hours practicing, studying, working, out, being a college student (I hear they are up late).

I it perfectly conceivable that an athlete short without access to dining facilities, could in fact go to bed hungry on occasion. Those equating hungry to famine and assume the kid has an all access key to campus are missing the point.

I recall one sunday, out of milk, before the storrs/dining hall opened, I found my self eating cereal w. iced tea. (I wouldn't recommend it).

The revenue generating kid deserve more, if only a piece of merchandizing and the ability to earn outside money under some reasonable eligibility rules.

Maybe if you told Shabazz there were some delicious triscuit crackers in the car, Shabazz wouldn't be hungry right now.

His point was that he often has no cash to buy a snack. A guy producing that much revenue for the school should have pizza money.
Most lower-income families (if this applies to Bazz, I have no idea) are eligible for Pell grants worth over 3,000 a year on average when attending college. Not a loan, and can be used for anything. There's plenty of information out there about college athletes taking advantage of the program, which kind of counters the idea they have no access to spending money.

I understand there are ways to make do, but again, guys generating huge revenue so coaches can make millions and ADs can make 500k should get a few bucks. It may not seem necessary since they get a free education, but it's just the right thing to do. Maybe $400 to $1000/month.

So there are no energy bars you can grab after practice to bring back to your dorm? I read something that Diaco implemented about a special room for unlimited snacks or bars or something like that.

The deal with OK or Ok St where the players ate too much pasta and they got in trouble for it really takes the cake.

At the very least, due to the energy athletes use up, you'd think they be allowed as much food as they want.

LMAO. Coming from Jabari Parker, son of a former NBA player. Duke doesn't exactly recruit hood rats.

At the very least, these kids should have access to food, at all hours. Nobody wants skinny string beans taking the court....although we had some this year and it turned out alright.
