Has there ever been a movie inspired craze as big as the Animal House fueled food fights ?
I was in junior high at the time and there were weekly food fights for at least a month. They were so widespread that no one got punished at first because almost everyone participated. At every lunch you sat strategically in case a food fight erupted and as things got even remotely rowdy everyone would move to the edge of their chairs poised to jump, throw and run. Sometimes there be false alarms as just one person would throw something but everyone would jump up and flee anyway. I can still remember the sound of 50 chairs simultaneously being pulled back or dumped.
My favorite was 2nd year of the craze we had a new Vice Principal and he was a fake tough guy that paled in comparison to his predeccesor. So one day he was touring a visitor through the lunch room and everyone was feeling rowdy. By this time the Vice Principal had to stand guard over the lunch room so as to immediately identify who started food fights and therefore prevent them. But this day he took his guest off to the side. We simply waited until he turned his back and once he did it was instant chaos with food flying everywhere. By the time he turned around it was too late to catch anyone. He was embarassed and beyond pissed. He escorted his guest away with instructions for all to remain in the cafeteria. Then we got a 10 minute lecture on how immature we must all be to have the audacity to start a food fight with him 30 feet away and to embarass him in front of a guest. He delivered this tirade to a pack of teenagers that were mostly still smirking at him.
