For what its worth, NOVA is in the C7 and isn't a conference mate any longer either. Sorry to bring you down.

College sports just isn't the same for me.

Had an amazing Syracuse vs. Villanova game and right now there's a good Louisville vs. Georgetown game and I just don't give a .

I don't even enjoy watching the games besides UConn anymore.

duck em all, go Huskies.

Nova back to back wins over Ville and Cuse. Great week for Nova. The BE will be a tight race to the end. I route for the underdog in these games.

Cuse had some good comebacks this year and avoided losses. I think they will come up short in the postseason as usual.

This is kinda how I feel too. Nova tied the game in regulation with a contested 3-pointer by Arcidiacono, and I thought to myself, "Okay....I don't feel like watching OT though..." Amazing how conference realignment has soured me on games that I would otherwise give a damn about...

Cuse gave that one away in regulation...4 pt lead with 2:45 to go and they missed 2 shots, turnover and missed the front end and then gave up a 3 as time ran out to go to OT...

For as long as I can remember I would watch any Big East game if it was on TV, simply because it was a Big East game.

Providence vs. Seton Hall hoops? If I'm home and not doing anything, that game was going on.

South Florida vs. Syracuse football? SNY Saturday 'game of the week'...I'd watch that while getting ready for UConn's game.

I just don't care anymore. It just sucks having invested so much time into something and then having the rug pulled out from beneath you.

That's why I almost feel like I root harder for UConn now than I ever did before. I just want to win so bad to prove everyone wrong by undervaluing us.

This statement is everything wrong with UConn's fanbase. Everything.
if you don't like football, it can be understood. But for a fan of Uconn to say they wish we didn't have football is so disappointing and detrimental to where this athletic program could be some day.

Yeah, I'm not saying you have to pay attention to to the FB program, but to wish it didn't exist?

Only at UConn.

I have been a fan of UConn basketball since the early 60s. My opinion and my interests are my rights and do not detract one iota from who I am and how strong a fan I am. I deleted two posts in this thread and wish I could delete the initial post because, unfortunately, it has attracted sanctimonious insults from a boring, predictable a**hole like you. If you want to really know what's wrong with the UConn fan base look in the damn mirror. It ain't rocket science. Pathetic!

The Cuse still hasn't cracked the Elite 8 absent Carmelo since 1996. Maybe the NCAA can schedule this years Regional at the Dome, or maybe Albany or Rochester. Invite Richmond and Vermont too!!!!!!!!!!

I don't mind being called many things, but boring is truly insulting!

Seriously, to root against the existence of the football program is to root against the school. Oh, and it's the main cash driver for the athletic department.

There's that.

If we don't end up in a BCS conference, who cares how much money they make? They're still a major brand on the basketball side, and would continue to be that in the basketball only conference.

I would obviously prefer to be in one of the major conferences, as it would be much better for the school (and the basketball program) in the long run, but I think there's some major doubt as to whether or not that'll ever happen. If you're talking about what's better for the basketball program moving forward, being in the Catholic conference would be better than being in whatever the Big East is in a few years.

Look if you can't discuss or debate preferences without making very general, inaccurate and unfounded accusations we have nothing to talk about. Both my children have UConn degrees and very successful careers in education and public relations. My commitment to the academic quality of the University is longstanding and unqualified. As I have often noted here, I have been a fan of the basketball program since 1960. I have never viewed, despite the current inter-conference feeding frenzy, the success of the university's athletic department as "football driven". I understand the reality of college athletics as big business. However, as simply as I can put it, I am almost exclusively a hoops and soccer(my son played for the university) fan. There are a large number of top academic institutions who have nationally known and very successful basketball programs; and either no football or comparatively low level football. Do you think Gonzaga,Butler et al are craving football so they can be successful?

This football related nonsense is for those who can never have enough power and money. I am really not a fan of insults hurled anonymously on message boards and I apologize for my earlier comments. HOWEVER, I would strongly suggest, when you feel the urge to take a very narrow view of someone else's opinion, that you tread carefully with the conclusions that you draw from that line of thinking. If I was not convinced that hoops success was absolutely possible(TV contracts included) without football, I would not have advanced the case. The evidence is there historically. There are plenty of examples complete with top level academics, very successful basketball programs and extraordinarily loyal, passionate and driven fans. And I would ask many of the university presidents and athletic directors to seriously reconsider the concept that bigger and richer is better. Okay, I'm done.

This is a simple "disagreement" as I understand both sides. For those of us who did not see a UConn football game live until Rentschler was built all we actually know is basketball. From the Yankee Conference, ECAC to the Big East basketball has been the "most important" sport to the fan base. I could be off but I doubt it.........and a move with the Catholic schools would be welcome if we were only hoops. But I also get it, football is the cash cow although they have not yet treated it that way in Storrs as of yet. Time to act big time and bring in some impact on the sidelines!!

I graduated in 1974. And while, technically, UConn had a football team in those days....the indoor polo (club) team had more national stature. By a lot.

UConn is building a football program, and having some success doing it, but, honestly, they have neither the consistency nor the tradition to have secured a "fan base".....yet.

I wish for the success of the football program, to elevate us to where lots and lots of us start to give a about UConn football....but one can hardly blame the "fanbase"....

There is no fan base. The fan base is still being built. It will take a while longer....and as we are without a conference at this point....the building of the fan base falls more heavily onto the program and its success.... We have no history to fall back on.

They made the elite 8 last year...and who the hell cares about final fours and elite 8s that are forced on the casual fan like its a great achievement ......u remember the 8th place finisher in the nfl last year? .....championships are all that matter and uconn has us three to one.....so end of story.....but pleAse stop act like that 2003 cuse team was a man team bc it wasnt

Not really, lots of fans at lots of schools could give a flying duck if the school has a football team. Its just that most of those are blessed to be in a BCS conference and their apathy doesn't really matter cause they are safe and sound.
