Girls basketball team gets booted from league for being too good! Is UCONN Next?

Can't imagine a scenario where a major college basketball team would be "banned" for being too good. Some schools have, and will, refuse to schedule UConn out-of-conference, but, banned? - no

Having daughters who played in similar leagues, and having helped coach same, the one grounds for doing something like this is, if the banned team was "stacked", in contradiction of league rules, or, at least, the spirit of the league. That happens - even happens in high school sports, where kids move into a school district so they can play for a certain team or coach.

I am wondering the same thing, pinotbear. I am wondering if the Rogers team had a stacked deck and playing against teams that are just starting out. Like you, and probably the rest of the boneyard family, I have been in leagues where I am the coach and my players skill set does not match the talent in the league. It would be interesting to see who the team was playing against and what skill level.

skimpy story, what were the scores ? again, there are no details on how the teams were formed - did the team break any rules ?

Good questions. If this is a case of "stacking" a team, then I agree. I've seen league officials have teams in the league that they hand pick, or assembled via a secret draft (which is not only against the rules, but also unfair to the rest of the teams).

BUT........if this is not the case, then it's easier to boot them out of the league (knee jerk reaction by some whiny self-serving parents) instead of trying to become better and/or find a way make the other teams more competitive, and become determined (make it a team goal) to beat them.

If the teams were assembled fairly (an open live draft), then no one should complain.
This is also a great lesson to teach the girls on the other teams. When things in life don't go your way, or when things get too hard, quit.

It really isn't a good idea to play in a league that you constantly dominate for what ever reason that might be. The problem is two fold. Schools usually are in leagues for all their sports. The other that factors into play is that the talent differential is more pronounced in high school girls basketball than any other sport. The best teams are usually from private schools who's while dominating in GHSB would get destroyed in the other sports. Much like UConn dominates in WCBB but not so much in the other sports the University competes in.

Usually though a school leaves on it's own and goes independent rather than them being kicked out.
