Notes:
  • 1. There are 3 new rotations: 18, 22, and 23.

Linear Rotations:
Cumulative Unique Rotations Sorted By Plus/Minus.
  • For more analytics, see CBB Analytics free tier for access to UConn’s rotations analytics (including advanced ones normally available only on an entire game basis).
  • Alternatively, see Hoop Explorer.
&1 More and better quality Mix-and-Match at a faster PACE is part of Geno and CD’s solution to the riddle of a deep quality roster.
  • One enables the other (and vice versa) and results in faster and better learning and improvement (akin to machine learning) and flatter minutes to achieve program and individual goals;
  • And the more dominant mix-match play is, the more time can be carved out of games for training the lower bench players.

Rotation Stint Index Series.
  • Per Bonedog’s Inquiry.
  • The Index (Per 40 Plus/ Minus) is based on the most recent games as of a certain date: 3 Quad 1 games, 3 Quad 2 games and 4 Quad 3/4 games.
  • Similar to other Indexes (DJIA, CPI) methodology but different; For example, not all Quad 1 games are the same, not all players are available and Geno and CD have different targeted objectives in the “metamorphosis” period.

You know me, I love a new rotation. In this game, it looks like only 18 represents a substantial experiment, and it didn't last long, only 0:37 until KK subbed in for Kayleigh. It's clear Geno is interested in getting Serah and Jana some minutes together on the court. This may be important, and they have to be able to work with Kayleigh as well as KK.

Below is the Detail page but filtered only for the Georgetown home game.
  • I had the impression that this is Geno and CD’s simile of a systems check after having a Top 10 finally free of illness and injury;
  • They only used 21:16 minutes of Winning Time Combinations (and a minuscule Pocket Bridge combinations of 4:29 minutes) to win games;
  • The starters’ and the small ball winning time rotations had great Per 40 +/- (above the season’s Per 40 +/- of 37.9);
  • Geno and CD used quite a bit of Bridge Combinations for the Top 10 (9:25 minutes in Top Bridge Combinations and 2:11 minutes in Bottom Bridge Combinations); “What would you do if Azzi/ Sarah are having subpar games”;
  • There was also a priority to giving more reps to Blanca, Caroline, Serah and Jana (including a twin towers look) without the crutch of playing with Sarah;
  • Geno and CD did not even use some of their better rotations (the hidden numbered rotations on the list) because of their metamorphosis objectives in this game.
So, I am not as concerned as one poster, as Geno and CD are unicorns in what they do.
  • There are wrinkles to their schemes that other teams won’t see because Geno and CD pounds teams with the same thing until they can prove they can stop them (I’ve called it an operational Death Star).
  • For example, Jana and KK’s best games in last year’s Final Four, Azzi’s elevator play and Paige and Sarah’s 2-man game.

In the cumulative, winning time, tier 1 rotations, it looks like 3, 16 and 17 were very effective for the short time they were out there. My takeaway is that we need Blanca back to where she was and, if that happens, we might need less Ash and more Blanca.

I agree wholeheartedly about Blanca needing/getting more time. But I’m not sure that extra time will come from Ash. My guess is Blanca’s minutes will mainly impact Serah and Jana, and maybe Allie when Geno runs smaller lineups. Some minutes will likely also come from KK and Kayleigh. The small lineup isn’t all that small when Blanca joins Sarah and Azzi and it is a huge advantage for Geno that it doesn’t give up any quickness for that extra size. The other surprise is that some of Blanca’s minutes will come from Sarah and Azzi as she gives them breathers and especially at the end of games.

The Per 40 +/- of the Top 8/9/10 is pretty much “plug and play” “basketball player” stuff (See their winning time rotations and pocket bridge rotations).
  • So Geno and CD do have a formidable Top rotation who are now healthy and rested for a run through the tournaments.
  • They can play their best lineups in 3-game and 6-game tournaments.
  • My only concern is the moxie of players not named Azzi and Sarah when the tight moments come.
Even though Serah is 6’4 and is used most frequently as a (mobile) center, she is in effect a taller Aubrey.
  • I tend to think that the Top 8 is small-ballish, even when Serah plays.
  • And Serah sometimes plays with 4 guards.
  • Serah or Blanca do give pocket breathers to Sarah in small ball and Blanca also gives pocket breathers to Azzi.
