I realize the season is two exhibition games and one "easy" home opener old, but so far I love Geno's guard rotation. Those of you with better eyes and video replay can correct me, but Geno seems to comfortable starting Bria and MoJeff, bringing Banks in for MoJet (love that nickname) and then subbing Chong and MoJet back in together. Those four healthy and rested are a nightmare for opposing guards.....They are fast, fearless and interchangeable.....

Keys to Geno plan would appear to be:
1. Banks seems almost 85-90%, or at least not terribly hesitant running and cutting. (edited)
2. Saniya Chong seems to have won Geno's confidence for 1st half time on the court.
3. MoJet is so confident w/ the ball, looks to have figured the offensive out.
4. Bria is old Bria. (edited)

Three big tests this next week and a half, so time will tell. But it sure looks sweet for Geno to keep running fresh, talented guards against less skilled opponents....Go Huskies..!!

4. Hartley looks like the Hartley of old sans better three point shooting (yet).

The mad scientist has so many options. I love the small lineup with Stewart at center, KML at PF, and three of the guards.

You will see why on Monday night the Geno has a plan to expose Stanford with team speed and PRESSURE defense......Big Mama can hang with the young Turbo jets.......

It is such a luxury to have: really good guards, really good wings, and really good posts - the depth even with only 9 recruited players is so good off the bench and the versatility of most of the players allows Geno great freedom and should allow the team to cover for foul trouble when/if it happens.

If Nurse commits, four guards for next year...perhaps we see a harbinger of Geno's team play and style for the future.

I see hesitancy in Banks who in both the Philadelphia game and yesterday received the ball on the left wing with a wide open path to the hoop hesitated and passed up the opportunity. This did not happen once but rather 3-5 times. I think it is wrong to think she isn't still questioning herself.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing, Ice, but I do think she'll be fine as she shakes off the rust.

I expect what she is going through. It has often been said the mental side is the tougher part of recovery. No one else had mentioned it and I thought it was time to point it out.

You are good- confirmed on replay last night- she had the edge a few times and passed it up-

Pressure defense seemed to be the name of the game for the guards against Hartford. Bria and MoJef were locked in on going for steals and disrupting any flow from the tip off. Saniya and Banks were equally locked in defensively.

I don't envy Stanford's guards tomorrow night.

My overall impressions were that Brianna is still rust-inhibited and Saniya is impressive. Geno appeared to acknowledge the latter point when he said that while he may regret saying this, she seems to get better every day. I think Stef (as a freshman) was the last player about whom he made that comment. I did not notice any defensive deficiencies in Saniya's game, although I'm not expert enough to say if her positioning is what the coaches expect.

If nothing else, she has put to rest the concerns of those who looked at her high school stats and worried that we might have another Simmons-style gunner on our hands. If anything, she has been overly hesitant to take jump shots. But she is deadly on penetration -- she can make layups from extremely awkward positions.

I think that she and Morgan are the best on the team at getting a successful layup in traffic under the basket.

At this point, I think the third guard in the depth chart is Saniya, not Brianna. I expect them to get more equal time as the rust in Brianna's game clears up over the next month or so.

I thought the hesitation I have seen is more rust in running the offense than fear about her physical condition.
I am not sure it is possible to differentiate the two. I am talking about what were pretty much wide open paths to the target. I thought taking the attack was very obvious and the number of times I saw it led me to think it may be more.

Agree that it is hard to differentiate causes of hesitation - I am basing my conclusion maybe more on the way she seems to be flinging her body around on defense and on the occasions where she does drive. In those instances I don't detect the 'fear' of injury that you do see in some players returning from surgery. The other thing that has happened is she has picked up a few fouls from being a bit out of control and that too can play into the psyche.

Speaking as one with a bad knee and who has gone through two cycles of rehab I can tell you being fearless in one thing is not to be fearless in all things. Diving on the floor is not likely to cause an ACL planting to cut or to elevate or land with contact is a different story. Your leg will tell you which ones will make you cautious.

Banks was just cleared to play I think 2 weeks ago? It's like a player missing spring training and then starting the season. It takes time to get your brain to make the right decisions.

Personally, I didn't think she showed any fear in any way.

Exactly, DD. Hesitating isn't fear in a traditional sense it is more a reticence to attempt something. She clearly passed up opportunities to drive the hoop that I think she normally would have exploited and it happened several times. Others noticed it ,too.

I think most of those opportunities were before Geno wanted the offense initiated over the last 10 minutes of the game. It looked to me like they were told not to attempt to score before there were under 10 seconds on the shot clock.

Watching interviews with Banks and reading about her rehab and strong mindset, I truly believe she is not hesitating because she is reticent to attempt something other than fear of Geno kicking her butt for not listening.

I agree with this. In the first exhib game, Banks went wild with her physicality. Chances are she got a talking to after that game, so, not so much all outness in the next 2 games. The scores being so lopsided, the emphasis wasn't to put the ball in the hole. It was to fine tune whatever Geno wanted to work on. There were enough plays where she demonstrated her physical readiness to discount the hesitation.

Maybe so, I am not so sure seeing it across two games and in the first half when she was on the floor. It will come along, the mind often lags what the body is capable of doing.
