according to a tweet from Patrick McKenna WBB Communications Director.

I have a feeling that it won't be streamed to SNY Subscribers.

I was right, SNY Streaming Subscribers will have access to segments approx 10:30 PM.

Awesome....well worth the $60

Do not fall for the PR from SNY, the company which should win an award for consumer unfriendliness. We will get "segments" and nothing else. And those segments can be whatever SNY deems we should see, and nothing else. They can be a minute each or three minutes each or 10 minutes each. No guarantees. Just segments. I am reminded of the KFC ad criticizing McDonalds, which made its chicken tenders out of "parts." Well, "parts" is what we streaming customers get, "parts" and nothing more.

For myself, I am watching the games and only the games -- assuming they even work from one week to the next. If my money is not good enough to merit the Geno Show in its entirety -- and clearly it is not -- or the ridiculously-named All Access Special, which was provided to a limited access audience, well, I won't watch it at all.

Yes, just for spite. I may have to use this service, but you damned well better believe I do not have to like it.

Bruin, I said the above by way of agreeing with your post, not contradicting it. Yes, I did see the little purple guy!

TomCat totally agree with your comments. IMHO the streaming subscribers are not relevant to SNY, thus they don't care about them. I'm sure UConn required the streaming subscription and SNY will provide minimum coverage to subscribers. They care more about their cable network as that's where they make their money.

Exactly, and that's why SNY does not have or need customer service. They let the cable and satellite systems deal with the little people.

Hope y'all on cable enjoy the show. I am not interested in watching "segments" and I suspect that next season I will not be interested in spending $60 and being treated like a 3rd class nobody.

Agreed pap! If I had another reasonable alternative to changing my cable provider, which is not an option and I do not want dish, I would not have shelled out the $60 to SNY to see just the games and 3 minutes of "bonus" footage. I have accepted that I will have to live with the choppy streaming provided by SNY to see the girls I love to watch play. At this point, I expect nothing else from their "service".

The people complaining about this service need to remember what it used to be like, if they even had hoopstreams in the first place. The product SNY is putting out costs the same as it did from CPTV and looks and acts much better than anything I ever saw with hoopstreams. Honestly though, it could be the same or even worse quality and I would still be happier, since I no longer have to be begged for money at every break from the game. I never understood why I, someone from Illinois, should have to listen to CPTV beg for money, when I already gave them 60 bucks to access the games online.

One of the main reasons I subscribed to Hoopstreams was to get the Geno Show. Since SNY is broadcasting the show over its cable network, is it a big deal to stream it also? I think not.

Well, Dawson, it's a rare day when I disagree with virtually every word in a post, but I've managed to with yours. I understand that quality may vary from TV set to TV set, but my experience is that SNY is much choppier than CPTV's was. Almost anything is better than Jerry Franklin, except for neglect, which is SNY's attitude toward streamers. I didn't care for the beggars, either, but I understood that the alternative was to go to a black screen during the begging, and that didn't make any sense. I mean, I live in Arizona, which is even farther away than you are. But distance wasn't the point, anyway. They could only show one thing at a time.

So, in fact, I do remember what it used to be like. I thought that much of the begging was annoying but kind of quaint. I was proud to contribute to a minor point in women's basketball history, what was a record-setter in the public television arena: a station that years ago, took a chance broadcasting women's basketball and managed, for a number of years, to bottle lightning. In the process, it turned those games into the best fundraiser in public television. It'll never be done again, of that I am certain.

Actually, I wonder about that -- now that the Big East has imploded. How long is SNY's contract with UConn? Depending on where they land, Conference-wise, we might see them return to CPTV...

Im confused, was this aired on SNY (on TV) friday evening, and if so how was it, what things did Geno discuss? Who was with him?

The show consisted of a few (three?) segments with Geno and several (four?) pre-taped segments. The taped segments were The Freshmen, Behind the scenes in the Bahamas, Heather Buck and Game Day at XL. The Geno segments were micro recap of the season so far, X's and GenO's where we described a few of their set plays and what's coming up.

Well, that's as best as I can recall.

Edit: And it wasn't Megan but the floor reporter Kerith Burke as host.

The one thing that I hadn't heard before was a description and visuals of the physical play and that Stewie took only three shots in the Penn State game because "that's all she wanted to take" (approximate quote, Geno), meaning that she will have to learn to deal with the tough play that she will undoubtedly be subject to in the future.

The views of Heather and KLM in class and the discussion of the tough degree that Heather is completing was also interesting.

The show was only a half hour with commercials. No real discussion of past games. No mail bag. No contoversial off the cuff stuff. It was more of team all-access show rather than a Geno discussion show. The old CPTV Geno Show was twice as long, had no pledge drives during the shows and I don't think they were ever edited. I prefer the old CPTV format.

I do as well, Mike. This was kinda bland, pre-packaged. None of the edgy, "impromptu" quality that made the old format entertaining and somewhat unpredictable. You never knew what Geno, Meg, or one of the guests/callers might say, and where that might lead.

Because of CPTV's Hoopstreams problems, many of us were unable to see Maya's senior night.

It was hardly utopia.

It is now a different group of people that suffer the issue of streaming due to the change. Yet somehow they do not seem to recognize that they are not the first to suffer the slings and arrows of injustice and that many of us were equally frustrated with CPTV and the lousy balking, freezing, soundless product for years, too.

So, I guess the point is, if there are an equal number of people unhappy with SNY, then it makes up for people who were unhappy with CPTV.

There's logic for you.

No one is saying CPTV was utopia. But it is interesting that SNY can provide better quality (production-wise) games, but still can't provide better quality streaming. Perhaps technology hasn't advanced enough to make everyone happy. Of course, that means CPTV was ahead of the game in concept and vision. Perhaps SNY will catch up. It is also interesting that their responsiveness to customers, v. CPTV's, is so breathtakingly poor. Again, I'm not saying CPTV tech/cust service could solve the problems -- or wasn't frustrating. But, in a majority of cases there was a response.

My understanding is that the reason for going to SNY were multi-fold:
  • Money -- hopefully UConn gets more money, SNY gets more viewers (and, therefore money)
  • Access -- more fans across the country get cable access, which feeds in to more money 'cause folks buy UConn stuff and recruits see the games on TV, which means UConn has to spend less money recruiting across the country 'cause folks will already be "primed."

The payoff for the above seems to be:
  • Those who don't have access to SNY cable get the very short end of the stick in terms of programing. Which is too bad, since the UConn phenomenon is about the on AND off court world of the team. Are we assuming all recruits can get SNY?
  • In the interest of costs, and maybe schedules -- where are the SNY studios? -- it would appear the "Geno Shows" will change format and content. They will be studio edited programs -- which can allow for less costs, if you throw in a lot of retread video. And, of course, they will be shorter, because of advertising needs.
So, there are two threads that will exist through the season. 1) SNY's service/delivery/quality and 2) SNY's content. Both are valid -- just as they were valid during the CPTV era. Obviously, the nature of the response of SNY and UConn athletics to people's concerns and requests will dictate the tenor of those posts as the season continues.

This SNY Geno Show rates a D with me. Too short for one thing. I never thought I'd miss Meghan's "heh, heh, heh's" but her interviews were so much better as she was better informed and truly interested in the program. This one was worth nary a tear if you missed it on streaming.

SNY on TV through providers that span much of the country, such as DirecTV and AT&T Uverse, as well as SNY through local cable companies, is absolutely WONDERFUL in both image quality and content. Seeing the broadcasts in HD on a large screen is downright ecstatic. Except for people with a blocked view of the sky, these broadcasts are available widely, and it is the technology of the present and future. Yes it costs money, but the product is worth it and anyone who thinks it should be free is not being realistic. There is also lots of room to negotiate price, both for a new customer, as well as someone renewing. I have had DirecTV, local cable, and AT&T Uverse and leveraged them against each other several times to improve price dramatically.

Streaming is a technology that inherently is relatively poor regardless of whether it originates from SNY or CPTV or somewhere else - - it's just the way it is. This is especially true for an event and broadcast system designed for TV. Computer screens as receivers just are not TVs - - inferior refresh rates, etc. etc. Streaming for SNY, as it was for CPTV, is not the main event for that company. For people who are fans and who have access to SNY through a TV broadcast organization, it is well worth the price and, more broadly, the overall content is really pretty good for someone who is selective in watching (this statement from someone who is far from a TV addict). Anyone who takes streaming over a TV broadcast has made their own choice about what they are willing to accept, and I don't think the comprehensive broadsides at SNY are justified in those circumstances. If you buy a budget car and expect it to operate like a Lexus you are going to be disappointed. This is no different. Junk the streaming along with the rotary dial telephones - - there is a better way! Get the TV broadcast, sit back, and enjoy it.

SNY has more than delivered the intended "payoff" in my view and in the view of all the fellow UConn WBB fans I know. This is the tenor of my experience and those of my friends.

For those of you who have trees, are traveling, or absolutely have no access to anything but streaming, my heart goes out to you. Find someone with a DVR who can record the broadcasts for you.

-Molto bene, Luigi. Grazie!
-Heads up, guys. Segments of the show are now available at the lower right of this SNY webpage: http://snyuconn.com/uconn/uconn-women-hartley-seeks-return-to-all-american-form/#more-3929

- Clueless: I’m sitting here trying to write a summary of what I remembered for this thread ...and then find the video. Duhooo!
-I will just add the segment of Heather Buck was interesting:

- Heather started by saying she is very frequently asked how she manages both the entire nursing curriculum and demanding UConn WBB regimen. She explained there was no formula for getting it all done, but was particularly grateful the faculty went out of their way to assist where they could. For example, she was permitted to enroll in course work during the summer that normally is not done by nursing undergraduates.

The brief shots of her in class rooms looked like students of medicine, all right – very focused. Her comment was this year is most interesting because greater responsibility is required to be demonstrated by the nursing students, as the reach the home stretch transitioning from students into RNs.

The takeaway was she is living a dream, having found a way to succeed both as a nursing student while playing for UConn.
