I'm a fan of every kid on the UConn team. I honestly do not have a 'favorite' who I would want to argue for playing time over another, with the exception of 'I like the kid who is playing the best today!' Tomorrow, it is likely that I am going to have a different 'favorite' player and want them to get more play time. In essence, I am kind of a front runner in that I want the kid who is doing best for the team, right now. I am not worrying about two years from now, or anything like that! I am only concerned with this season, and frankly the next game on the schedule, after which it will be the next game on the schedule. There are going to be rotation players who sub in and out; I want them to play well, I want them to show me who my 'favorite' player is! Once we have a lead, once I am comfortable, I am of the opinion that the coaching staff should play not just the staters and rotation players, but also the bench, and I would hope that these bench players are able to produce quality minutes changing my mind in, who my 'favorite' player is! It is not unheard of that they wouldn't play together on occasion, but Ash and Azzi play the same position. If one were to be unavailable, we would heavily look toward the other to fill that void. Recognize that this was the exact scenario early on. As such, Ashlynn has double the playing time so far this season. That has been changing over the last 3 or 4 games, but Ash really has had many more minutes so far. If Azzi were again to be unavailable, it is logical that we would see much more of Ashlynn, yet again. So, as of recent Geno has been starting Fudd; is Azzi actually better than Ash? Is it vice versa, and statistically Shade has been better? Are they equivalent? Statistics are only as good as they are, and there are many things that are not shown into a statistical analysis, but what else do we have available to evaluate and answer these questions... One of our members, @JRRRJ, produces a spreadsheet which creates an apples-to-apples comparison. He takes into consideration that Ashlynn has almost double the playing time and he does the math for that. His most recent "Per-40" spreadsheet does not include last weekend's Louisville game. Mentally, you will have to factor into what you know from that Louisville game and add them to the statistics that he has been able to calculate (shown below). As for Louisville last weekend, Azzi scored 18 in18 minutes, and Ash scored 13 in 20 minutes of play.
