That's what he says. Maybe that is what he meant when he said everything comes to an end.

"After the latest press conference following another breezy AAC victory Wednesday night, Geno Auriemma walked down a Gampel Pavilion hallway and said, “Now I’m like every other coach in the country.”

He had just talked hypotheticals outside the Huskies’ weight room, raising his hand to a wall and sketching an imaginary NCAA Tournament bracket, wondering aloud what might happen if UConn runs into certain opponents because there are several out there that pose problems the Huskies will struggle to counter.

“We’ve never worried about, OK, we’re in the NCAA Tournament, we better get the right matchup, we better get in the right bracket,” Auriemma said. “That’s what every team in the country is thinking – ‘I’ve got to get in the right bracket.’ We never worry about that. We don’t care what bracket we’re in. Now we’re sitting there going, ‘Oh, man, we don’t need this team, this team or this team in our bracket because we can’t handle the stuff that they have.’ It’s that kind of year. It’s been a while since we’ve been in that situation.”

Facetious--was Geno's mode. His is like all other Coaches in the country (should be).
Geno enjoys being number one with 39-0 last year, these past 2 years that hasn't been so, and neither is this shaping up to be one.
He has had "down" (for Uconn) years. This is not new. He has had teams that struggled to win, also not new. But I cannot remember a year when he had few viable choices for subs or where his starters have played (until recently) so long.

At half time of the SMU game, a Uconn Orthopedic Md spoke about injuries happening because players play too long: practices, games, off-season they are weight training, bodybuilding, no time off. To his dissertation that is a map to injury.
He didn't say they MAY be injured it appeared he was saying they will be injured.
Short bench 5 starters, until recently, playing 35 40 minutes per game --??? That seems to be what Uconn will do in March.

What has always separated Geno from the rest of the pack is his system. He is a really good coach but what he did best was establish and use his system to maintain Uconn dominance over WCBB. Creating your system is a major part of coaching. It is of my opinion that the changing face of WCBB has made if very difficult to continue to get the right recruits his system is based and relies on. When he says he is just like every other coach now that is what he is referring to. As I have said before he certainly has the chops to adjust to the new reality, but the question will be does he really want to. It would require him to adjust and change the standards of excellence he has set for his players and program.

Geno jokingly said that he has been complaining about having no competition over the past years; but now, he is having to like it.

UConn did luck out by not having to play Baylor a few years ago- and the same would be true this year, unless ONO can continue improving.

Intestinal fortitude and at least 2 of our shooters shooting their average and Baylor goes down double digits.

People talk about tall teams giving UConn problems rebounding. UConn's rebounding problems is more about lacking rebounding fundamentals than being short. The team that eliminated Baylor in last season's NCAA's was not as tall as Baylor and neither was the team that beat them this season. Kara Wolters pointed out some of the rebound problems UConn has been having. Blocking out is not a strong point for UConn except for Kyla.
