Geno Auriemma Pregame Media Availability - 11.8.25

Geno says in the video clip:

"It will be interesting to see how tomorrow I can do a better job with our rotation, . . . how I can limit some players' minutes, hopefully, and how I can increase some other people's minutes. Who that is, I don't know yet." He goes on to say that the rotation for the FSU game "might be completely different" from the Louisville game, and that the rotation for the game after that "may be completely different" yet again. (Emphases mine.)

Rotating rotations? Might be. May be. Maybe. Maybe.

Personally, although he'll probably tinker with minutes, it's my belief that Geno historically makes up his mind about rotations pretty quickly in the pre-and-early season. Accordingly, I think he's already pretty sure who his top seven players are. I further think he's pretty sure who 8, 9, and 10 are, but he may be less sure at this point about the play/minutes order of players 8-10 in any given game.

Sounds like Geno is determined (if possible) to give as many players as possible some extended playing time. That’s pretty exciting for those of us who are hoping for a bigger rotation this season. Obviously the PT should still/always be based on how they are practicing, but it will be nice to see some of the new/returning players get some (hopefully) extended playing time. Go Huskies!

One of the challenges with early season PT for such a deep roster is that UConn has only one OOC game with a team the Huskies should handle easily. That would be Loyola. Every other OOC team UConn faces is a solid P4 team with a legitimate opportunity to make it into the Big Dance. That being said, most of the PT for the bottom 5-7 players will happen against conference opponents.

Radical thought I know, but what if Geno managed a little looser during this stretch. If he had played more people with minutes on Tuesday, UConn would have still won by at least the same margin. Kids getting the chance to play against people they know from high school. What better experience is that, solid competition in competitive games. He's gunna do better tomorrow.

Player availability discussion begins around 22:44.

Best news that I took away is that Blanca's injury is apparently not a long term thing. She is almost certainly not playing tomorrow, but sounds like she should be available soon.

Also, his comments on Cheli were a bit head-scratching but the tone was at least mildly encouraging. No exact date, but "getting close to being on the right track". Not the best place to be, but not what you would likely hear if the redshirt option was being considered.
