STORRS, Conn. -- After leaving her high school basketball practice Thursday evening, Lexi Gordon went on Twitter, and seconds later the University of Connecticut signee sent a text message to her mother, Kim.
"WE GOT HER," Gordon wrote.
While Gordon was preparing for her L.D. Bell High team's next game Friday against Lamar, Megan Walker was in her home gym at Monacan High in North Chesterfield, Virginia. There -- the 6-foot-1 wing who is ranked the No. 1 senior -- announced she would sign with UConn.
The decision may give the Huskies the No. 1 class in the country.
"It's just the history of the program and being able to be coached by a legend," Walker said on ESPN's "Recruiting Nation" show.
UConn received signed letters of intent on Thursday from Gordon (6-foot guard/forward, Fort Worth Texas), Andra Espinoza-Hunter (5-foot-11 guard, Ossining, New York) and Mikayla Coombs (5-foot-8 guard, Buford, Georgia). But the icing on the cake is Walker, who picked the Huskies over Notre Dame and Texas.
With the recruiting process for the Class of 2017 over, UConn coach Geno Auriemma hopes his newest signees enjoy the rest of their senior years.
"I want them to stay healthy and see if they can help their team win a championship," Auriemma said. "I want them to know that feeling of winning a championship so they can carry that with them when they come here.
