If it is Little Richard and Tutti Frutti, I would hardly call the song do wop. It is about as hard rocking as you can get.

Ruffian, there are 2 ways to look at doo-wop. One, as you imply, is confined to the singing groups, often in ballads.
the second is to see it as a rock and roll era, from 1954 roughly to the advent of the Beach Boys & Beatles.

As a musical genre, Doo-wop is a type of vocal group harmony with the musical qualities of many vocal parts, nonsense syllables, a simple beat, little or no instrumentation, and simple music and lyrics. It is ensemble singing with single artists appearing with a backing group. Solo billing usually implies that the individual is more prominent in the musical arrangement.[1]

I am home from the pinochle wars, listening to On the Threshold of a Dream, and all is well with my world.

1..VTC & Upink with Great Notion

2..The Prince and the Showgirl with Ms. Monroe and Laurence Olivier.

3..NCor has The Joker of Batman fame.

4..Scapulas work, a trio ending with Meyers.

5..Tutti Frutti, as articately expressed by Ruffian & VAUC. Hmmm, is there a link with the Catfish offering?

6..William & Mary College

7..To be faithful to the line lengths, we require Spit in the Ocean.

8..True, Terif, it is Goodman.

9..Meyers notes that he's a surfer.

10..Iran is correct, credit to our 2 "V's".

11..A constellation and a star cluster is well put, NCor.

12..Upink is OK with Heroes. David Bowie et al.

13..King Rama IX ascended the throne of Thailand in 1946, when I was a wee lad.

And we move on to part B in a little while.

I agree and so does my live-in musicologist. Upink says gospel, jump blues, and rock n' roll, but no doo wop for Little Richard. Tutti Frutti may begin with nonsnsical doo wop syllables but it is a rock n' roll song. Now Ray Pollard is Doo Wop through and through.

I stand by my perspective. Doo-wop was an era that included R & R OR you can take your view.

OK, it would be stubborn of me not to admit I could have phrased the question better. While my wording at least did not seem to throw you off, "An early R&R song" or "A song from the doo wop era", would have been superior.
