Games of Interest (11/7)

Top 25 Games

Belmont @ #17 NC State 7pm
Rice @ #20 Texas A&M 8pm
UC Davis @ #7 Stanford 10 pm

Other games

UCF 61 Pitt 58 (11 am start)

Like it that the other teams in the AAC are playing against the Power 5 conferences in non-conference games. So far they are giving a good showing.

Belmont 36 #17 NC State 29 at halftime
#20 Texas A&M 26 Rice 18 late 2nd Qtr

As a reminder, Rice has the 2 younger Ogwumike sisters.

I'm watching the Rice/A&M game.
Rice was picked to finish 2nd in Conference USA, and Erica Ogwumike is the preseason conference POY.

Edit: I'd forgotten that 6'9" OU transfer Nancy Mulkey was set to make her debut in a Rice uniform, but it appears she's not playing tonight, for some reason.

#17 NC State took control in the 2nd half and defeated Belmont 77-62

#20 Texas A&M 60 Rice 51 (1:51 left i 4th)

#20 Texas A&M 65 Rice 54

Future UConn opponent

Purdue 80 Ball State 38

Stanford didn't shoot the ball very well but pulled away for a 71-43 win. One of the Hull twins (they are both listed as L. Hull in the box score, that's not helpful) had 11 points and 11 rebounds in her debut. Alanna Smith led the way w/ 16, Kianna Willams had 14.

That would be Lexie.

Drake 83 Nebraska 77
Indiana 68 Milwaukee 66 (Former Domer Ali Patberg scored 16 pts and grabbed 8 boards for IU)

Williams was Stanford's best player but I'm not sure she played the 2nd half.

Lexie Hull had a nice game. Smart player.

Dodson reminds me of McCall. She's active on the boards and runs the floor well but remains to be seen how much of a scoring threat she'll be.

I think Stanford will shoot better than they did last night. They also looked better defensively than in recent years.

And Pitt transfer, Brenna Wise, had 17 points for the Hoosiers. She was by far the best player on the court for Pitt for her two years there.

Hope nothing but the best for Ali Patberg who was pummeled with injuries and illnesses at ND. She's got a zest for the game and hope she gets a lot of good years at Bloomington.

Thanks for this thread, Cat, appreciated.

Drake was the Missouri Valley champion last year and I believe returned most of their starters.

Yup...They finished the season 26–8, 18–0 in MVC play to win the MVC regular season championship. Won the league tourney, too, before losing to Texas A&M in the first round of the NCAAs. Tough team. Good coach.

Huh. They've been stingy for a number of years. Hold some teams under 50 and even under 40 in the last few years.

I figured. But they need to be listed in the box score as Le. and La. Hull to distinguish them. One extra letter, not that hard.

I saw a different more aggressive style of defense than I recall seeing. Part of that may be more depth. I believe Tara said something similar recently. That is what I meant.

Cool, thanks for clarifying. Yeah, in recent years they didn't overwhelm with speed/athleticism. It was more of position defense and good scouting reports. Didn't force a bunch of TOs like USC and UCLA. Similar to Oregon St.
