Just back and feeling a bit spent. Another ugly one, and the Sun come out ahead in OT. 7-1 on the season... whodathunkit. LA making a strong bid for a Mercury-like tank to get Stewey. No Parker, Tolliver or Phillips in sight.
Without really studying the box score yet, some observations:
Camille is as steady and reliable a player as there is in the league. No dazzling numbers, just a really good stat line filler.
Kelsey Bone took a step back tonight with some very poor shooting around the hoop but this is a big, strong kid who can run the floor. I'm going to assume the finishing issue tonight is temporary (fingers crossed). I still think she's a keeper.
Alyssa Thomas seem to be hurting a bit, probably the hip she injured a while back. She gets a ton of her shots blocked trying to force it to the rim when earlier she seemed to be able to out quick the bigger players and finish. She is also charging more I think. Both those things could be a consequence of defenders taking advantage of a relatively one-dimensional game. This girl is in desperate need of an outside game and if she develops one, she's an All-Star from that point on.
Chelsea Gray has a sweet shot, and can see the court like few can. But I've seen enough to observe two things, 1) she's has to be quicker to be great in this league. Really quick opponents give her fits. This might be continued recovery from the knee issues but I think she has to follow Alex Bentley's lead and get 15+ pounds lighter. She'll still be a big guard but will be more maneuverable and able to get better separation for those show time passes and sweet 3's. 2) She s not yet adjusted to the overall speed of the W. This makes her turnover prone. She's a rookie... to be expected, I guess.
Lots more to think about, good and bad... but I'm pooped.
Indiana up next. GO SUN!
