Marquette is probably a good game to have to play with the potential of both Azzi and Aubrey being a "DNP". I am not minimizing Marquette's team they are a good defensive team holding their opposition to only 57.3 points per game. However, when you look at who they played they have only played two teams in the top 20. Texas (3) and UCLA (20). They beat number 3 Texas by 7 and lost to number 20 UCLA by 8. They also won a barn-burner over Villanova by 2 points. Jordan King 5'11" Senior guard seems to be their go to player. I think Geno will focus the defense on limiting Jordan's touches and try to hold her either under or at her average. Marquette only averages 69 points per game...which is a problem when you put that up against UConn's ability to put 80 plus points on the board. Marquette will have difficulty with UConn's defense...think Creighton...who would have thought a depleted UConn would beat a team like Creighton by 25 on their home court. If Aubrey plays on Saturday (I don't think so) but, if she does this game will not be close at all. I think for this game at least we will end up going with 8 players (Ayanna, Amari and Ines off the bench).

Jordan King vs Lou Lopez-Senechal - This will be a match-up of two players who can score. They are evenly matched with regards to size...Lou at 6'1" and Jordan 5'11". Jordan and Lou are pretty close to statistically matching up fairly evenly. Jordan is a better rebounder but, Lou is a better three point shooter. ADVANTAGE - EVEN

Liza Karlen vs Dorka Juhasz
- Dorka is playing like a beast averaging a double-double 13.4 points / 11.6 rebounds. Every game she plays her confidence grows. Liza is practically a double / double herself with 11.8 points and 7.8 rebounds. But, I think Dorka will prove to be too much for Liza to handle. ADVANTAGE - UCONN

Cloe Marotta vs Aaliyah Edwards
- This match-up features two players who are basically averaging double / double. Edwards (our future All-American) averages 17.9 points and 10.0 rebounds while Cloe averages 13.3 points and 8.3 rebounds. Again, I think that Aaliyah will prove too much for Cloe. UConn's fast pace game and their passing ability will provide our inside players with lots of scoring opportunities while UConn's defense will make it difficult for Marquette. ADVANTAGE - UCONN

Nia Clark vs Caroline Ducharme
- Big height advantage here with Caroline. I believe that Caroline is still not 100 percent. I have been watching her play in each of our games and I have noticed that Caroline rarely leaves her feet...a player of Caroline's ability would only avoid jumping if she was trying to protect something. I suspect it is either her back or her neck. However, even if she is injured she will be too much for Nia to handle. Looking at Nia statistically she doesn't stand out in any category. ADVANTAGE - UCONN

Rose Nkuma vs Nika Muhl -
Rose Nkuma averages 5 points per game, 2.7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals...comparing that to Nika's impact on the game...Nika's ability to drive the basket and shoot the three while distributing the basketball and making everyone else better just puts her at a whole different level than Rose. ADVANTAGE - UCONN

Bench -
Not too excited about our bench at this point in the season but given the fact that Marquette is height challenged I would look for both Patterson and DeBerry to have better games than they have been having. Geno will need them to play minutes to rest our starting five who have been playing too many minutes. Ines should use this game to build her confidence. We need her to be able to give us a solid 8-10 minutes of relief, to rest our starting guards and to cover if any of them get into foul trouble.as we approach the post season. Marquette brings 20 points off the bench...they are deeper than UConn currently is. ADVANTAGE - MARQUETTE

Intangibles
- We are playing at home. We are a faster team who has been tested by playing a much tougher schedule. We have dealt with adversity pretty well and have come out only losing two games. I am not sure that if any of the other top 10 teams had the minutes and points we have on the bench if they would have only lost two games. Our resiliency speaks for itself and as fans we have a lot to be proud of with this team. ADVANTAGE - UCONN

Coaching
- Again...how do you vote against Geno, Chris, Jamelle and Morgan? ADVANTAGE - UCONN

UConn - 87
Marquette - 58

I think I agree, except about matching Lou up with Jordan King. King is really their point guard, which I think means she's really the counterpart to Nika. Nkumu and Clark are the ones who correspond to Lou and Caroline. I don't think this changes your analysis much. I expect Nika to harry King for much of the game. But Aubrey -- if she plays -- will probably switch on to her for stretches. I expect King will be exhausted by the middle of the 3rd quarter.

By the way, your score and MoV almost exactly matches mine. Great minds think alike.

Game Analysis from the Marquette side. Especially loved the Nika Muhl comments

Does this mean that Nika Muhl and Dorkha Juhasz are game changers? Well, I don’t know if we can go that far with things, but I am legitimately afraid of Muhl who looks like one of the meanest players in Big East history when you watch her. I’m sure she’s nice but also I do not wish to accidentally piss her off and find out what happens.

Marquette lost to Villanova in that barn burner. Other than that, I agree with your analysis. Well done.

Hey cferraro. You don’t get a lot of responses to your analysis, so I just want to let you know that I really appreciate your posts. I realize that the player by player comparisons aren’t a perfect way to compare teams, but your write ups give me a capsule review of players and teams. Thanks!
