When Gabby is making that FT line elbow jumper , Uconn is a completely different team. Almost unbeatable. And tonight she had it rolling.......And when Crystal is hitting on top of that.......

Quoting the Little Italian, “If Gabby makes 52% of her jump shots we’re unbeatable.” :)

When Aja plays against other teams and especially the posts, she looks pretty quick but against UConn and Gabby in particular, she looks pretty slow. Theory of relativity. :)
How any others look good against UConn? Aja did school them a few times early... but back to the jumper, I enjoyed it going in the basket

If Gabby makes her jumpers, if Crystal makes her 3s, if Z plays her best game, etc. UConn is unbeatable.

Each one of these individual conditions--and many others (if Kia shoots like she did earlier in the year, if Pheesa plays like she did last year, if Meg plays like she did against Notre Dame, etc) is true.

The point is that UConn has enormous talent that, in aggregate, matches up competitively against the best that any other team can throw at UConn. If just one of those Huskies, however, plays her best game, the distance between UConn and any other team is unbridgeable. That speaks, not only to the quality of UConn play, but shows that there are no weak links. Each of the top 7 players is capable of blowing up a game.

That's one of the brillant but subtle changes implemented during the last few games by the UCONN staff. Gabby is setting up at the fouline or the foul line extend. Earlier in the season she was setting up closer to the arc. at the elbo she more of a threat to shoot.

Watching warmups yesterday, I couldn’t help but notice that Gabby took a handful of shots from beyond the arc, knocking down several. While she didn’t attempt one in the game, don’t be surprised if Gabby lets one fly in a game.

We only need 1-2 out of these three to show up in order to rout any other team this year ..

thanks so much for this observation. And maybe to create space for Z underneath? and high-low between Gabby and Z?

Geno said after the Duke game that although defense wins games, he wanted to see more offense and then he smiled. That made me think that there were some things he did not show against Duke. Maybe Gabby's shot from the elbow was one of the things he held back. When I saw Collier hit her first two free throws, I thought that they are ready and would play well.

Z noticeably needs to get much, much stronger during the off season. She is just too easily pushed around.

Absolutely right on target.
While there's a new generation of bigs, who are much more mobile and have multi-faceted games, most bigs especially if they are not slim are often sort of lumbering. Wilson is a cross of both but has nowhere near the speed, quickness and leaping ability of Gabby!
As a few of you and more important Geno has said, when or if Gabby is making the foul line jump shot, U Conn is pretty much unbeatable. CDshooting the lights out in the first half makes for the romp.
