Gabby has played great. But for Gabby to play the 3 she must really improve her jump shot.

I agree. Gabby is great at what she is doing this season but what she does is limited. On the other hand, if she can learn to play inside so quickly (and so incredibly well) then I don't see why she can't develop a reliable mid range and behind the arc game. She may be among the best athletes to ever play at CT.

Intra squad scrimmages next year will be better than most games.

I noticed that Gabby missed her first couple of shots in close last night. She seems to shoot 80% when she uses the glass and 30% when she doesn't.

On her FTs, her form and rotation are excellent. She adjusted last night and shot slightly shorter. Nearly every miss this year has been long. I think she's getting there. She has the drive to excel.

On her rebounding, her athleticism gives her a huge advantage. Not only is she a high leaper, but also she is a quick leaper. She gets up faster than the opposition. In the case of offensive put-backs, she grabs the rebound and goes back up before the opponent knows that happened. She's phenomenal. She's Gabbulous.

Interesting dilema for Geno and staff next year. While posters refer to the team as an embarrassment of riches it could also be thought of as an embarrassment of flexibility. Perhaps just Mo (1) and Butler(5) are inclined to be fixed in a specific role.
Stewie and Tuck have front court options.
Chong and Nurse have backcourt options.
Gabby has the potential for back and front court options if her range can be approved and if she can handle a large front court( its too bad we didn't see more of her against the large front courts of SC and ND ).
KLS seems ideal at the 3 but if her foot speed improves we could see her briefly at the 2 and as she gets stronger perhaps a stint at the 4.
Collier has the height and wingspan to play 3 or 4.
Overall, the offensive weaponry will be powerful particularly if someone can step into KML's shooting role that allowed the floor to be spread so effectively.
Whoever plays where...it will be great fun to watch!!

Just guessing, but I bet Geno has a list. Plus he will insist that all the freshmen learn to move their feet on D. He's sort a funny that way. Until they satisfy him on D, the poition on offense won't matter much. It eems that Collier and Boykin play defense with great relish, so it will be great fun to watch developments.

I'd love to see a lineup where she plays the 3. Good luck matching a normal SF up on her. She'd be killing them in the low post. And good luck trying to play a zone to slow her post ups with Mo and KLS on the squad.

Totally disagree. She is the perfect four for a high-low post offense, which by definition necessitates having two wings for spacing. A small forward is not really a position in that offensive scheme.. It is quite possible for four post players to get meaningful minutes, particularly since Stewie can play the wing and absolutely disrupt the other team's defense. Morgan also does quite well at the three when she is on the court with Gabby.

No way, absolutely no way Tuck does not start...... she is the leader of the team......

Also, if someone wants to knock us off, they had better do it this year.... coz no way will anyone touch us next year...... what a team......

We'll see. I think we'll miss KML. It was a year ago that people thought there was no way UConn would lose a game this year, and when we did, we realized what Stef and Bria meant to the team. Just think, when Mo does one of her dribble drives, who is she going to kick it out to for the sure 3? No one, that's who.

After April 7, We have seven months with nothing to do. We should spread this discussion out, shouldn't we?

No...time waits for no one. This thread is a great read.

On the loss this year..... i never have seen UConn play so terribly, especially on defense..... letting stanford guards penetrate to the basket..... and after that game, Saniya didn't start.....

ya i think we just will be too strong next year..... Butler will be a role player able to do a lot of what Stefanie did..... and Stewart a senior.... and samuelson coming off the bench.....

I looked at ND roster.... coz everyone saying they bring everyone back which they do.... but I think we are head and shoulders above them..... and Diamond is great as a one on one, but Renn will not challenge us.... SC will not either, with all due respect to Wilson who is one heck of an athlete....

they should start to sell tickets for training/scrimmage sessions if they are more competitive to conference games. Maybe that will bring in some student crowd.

Here's my question in regards to her future: as well as she's adapted to the post and proven that she can be really effective, should she eventunally be moved towards the SF or SG position? There's not much doubt she'll continue to be extremely effective down low at the college level. But is it in the best interest of her pro prospects to at some point learn to play the wing?
Plus- we are thin at the guard position. I'll bet they/she spends a lot of time this off season on guard play and an outside shot. Great points!

Far too early..... but i absolutely would bet bottom dollar on Morgan starting.... she is our leader!!!! She and MoJeff are the glue

Recently a reporter asked her a similar question. She replied that she wasn't even thinking about it right now. How's that for good news!

Real good answer fpr now when she is immersed in BB
But come the end of the season and soundings on how her knee is coming along
She will and certainly should consider an Olmpic dream.

I hope you're right. Maybe she can make a sophomore leap in outside shooting. Gabbulous would make a monster guard on defense. Opponents would be terrified.

Next year is the chance to knock us off. Who do you think is going to beat us this year? Notre Dame with a Soph in Reimer and two freshmen in the low post? USC?

Next year more teams are capable of having one unreal game like Nova had vs GTOWN.

Oops. OK...

Starter/1A Sub/2 Sub
1 - Jefferson/Chong
2 - Nurse/???
3 - KLS/Williams
4 - Stewart/???
5 - Tuck/Butler

Where do you put Collier? May be hard to keep her on the bench too.
we also have De'Janae Boykin coming next year too, 22nd best player on the top 100 list.

What do we do with Tuck?
Tuck can start at the 5 I guess, and 6'5" Butler transfered to UCONN to be a sub.

Or Williams stays a high-minutes sub, Stewie starts at 3/4, Tuck starts at 4/5 (4 defense, 5 offense), and Butler stays under the hoop on defense.

Hopefully they can all get good minutes (including the incoming freshmen) and we will be the deepest team ever.

We're going to have a 15 year Throwback.

UConn is stomping a team. Fan behind the bench is yelling, "Put your bench in! Put your bench in!"

Geno turns, "This IS my bench."

Pause.

Fan yells, "Put your starters in!"

This is one of those times where I wish we were allowed to hit the "like" button more than once.

Not next year...the year after....Stewie , Tuck and Mo will not lose...bet the ranch on it

I totally agree.
Morgan and KML have a lot of control of the offense. They are like field generals in the half court sets. Like Stef was her last few years.

FYI I do hope you are right that Butler ends up starting, but I do think that only 4 starters spots are "guaranteed".

Jefferson, Nurse, Tuck and Stewie. I actually believe the 5th starter could come from any 1 of 4 players - Butler, Williams, Collier, or Samuelson. I know there are pros and cons to each one and I bet there will be interesting and spirited debates over the summer. Honestly I have no idea who I'd "prefer", but...
  1. Put Butler out there and you have a legit and skilled back to the basket center and she can bang around in the post with the other teams' center leaving Stewie more free to roam
  2. Put Williams out there and you have an undersized kid who is crazy-athletic and tough as nails and plays like she's on a pogo stick.
  3. Put Samuelson out there and (yeah she's a freshman as is Collier) you have a kid who shoots like KML but is 3" taller
  4. Put Collier out there and you have a do everything 3/4 who has a game that is almost as good as Maya Moore's.
You can't go wrong with any of them. I don't think Chong becomes a starter next year mainly because UCONN would them really have no "really skilled" guard off the bench.
There you go. Well put. (I've said it myself in a couple of these threads.) 4 starters coming back from this year and you have up to 4 players who should be able to compete for that 5th starting role. Gonna be fun next year.

I agree with Chong coming off the bench. Just like this year, we are gonna be a little short on guards.
