At least according to some guy on the WVU scout board. Basketball takes a huge hit and is bumped down to 5th. I don't know how accurate this is and don't really know too much about RPI ratings and stuff but I actually do take some solace in knowing that according to one of the established methods of determining conference strength that the NBE is pretty damn tough. Here is the entire list. It can be found at the link below to the WVU board. If these numbers are accurate there is no way that the conference could be relegated out of the power six if the on the field performance continues for the top teams.

performance on the field was never the old new big east's problem and i don't expect it to be a problem for the new new big east. losing WVU will hurt, but we're also dropping our two worst programs in terms of performance and adding several solid teams that have done well over the last few years, and it's certainly feasible that Boise will continue to be "better" than WVU. personally i think Boise will have to get used to the idea of losing a few games every year now that they're in a tougher conference, but you never know

RPI is so subject to variability from year to year, it is really not too meaningful. Plus it is a bit self fullfilling, especially in football, but also in basketball...teams with reputaitons move up and down in various rankings at different rates than less well known teams. Alabama is going to drop more slwly in th efootball polls than UCONN with a loss. UCONN on a winning streak will move up more slowly. When it comes to basketball, the Huskies will get the benfit of the doubt over the Tide.

Clearly they are. Either way, I'm not going to worry about it anymore. It is what it is and the New Big East is clearly in the top 6 of all conferences so we are losing rivalries but should still be able to market the league and prove that its competitive on the field.

Um, maybe I don't understand what these numbers are supposed to represent, but under football there is no #1, #2, #3, #6, #7 or #9 - but luckily there are 3 schools ranked 8th?
The Big East's perception problem has always been that it doesn't have top end teams - that doesn't really change when you've got one team in the top 35 - and that team isn't going to get more respect than they used to because they are now playing

This is just from a random WVU fan's analysis. I really don't know how accurate it is and I agree that the perception still won't be that great nationally but if the computers that calculate RPI say that the NBE is one of the stronger conferences once it materializes then its at least one thing that it has going for it. It's obviously not really that big of a deal though just a slight indication that the on-field product might be OK based on one of the rankings systems that is commonly applied to college sports.

Never been a fan/believer of the RPI, and here's just one example why - RPI ranks Kansas St #51 and Baylor #59, or the 7th and 8th best teams in last years B12, while just about every other poll had them in the top 10-15, and they were in the top 4 of that league.

Also, per the RPI, Clemson was the third best team in the ACC, ranked behind VT and FSU, never mind the fact Clemson won the league and beat both of those teams.

I do believe the NNBE will be the 4th or 5th best FB conference with the changes, but not b/c of anything the RPI says.

Football? The Big East isn't better than any of conferences listed in football. We are a distant 6th.
