Nice job VG! I was wondering how we did. Hopefully today continues that trend.

Wow, Stanford is disappointing. UCLA having poor attendance is not surprising, but the Cardinal used to lead the Pac in attendance every year. I wonder what happened? Games were on a Saturday afternoon, not much excuse for not being there. Had 2 good games as well.

In 2016, Stanford got 3100 and 2000 for the Sat/Mon games.

Huh. That's pretty weak. Maybe their fans got spoiled during the Wiggins/Appel/Pedersen/Ogwumike/Ogwumike years. Their team deserves better support than that and they are still fun to watch.

Just out of curiosity I looked up attendance for the 2 games hosted by UW last year on Saturday and Monday: 8059 and 7579. Again, what's wrong w/ Stanford fans?

Washington was energized by the F4 appearance the year before + Plum/Osahor + 1st time hosting.

Look at how much UConn NCAA attendance has fallen even though it's still #1 (averaging about 5-6k last few years). Imagine what it would be if UConn were a 3 or 4 seed.

If we get to Albany I wonder how the year over year comparison will look? Will "the Circus" draw more fans at this site? Are people buying tickets tonight in spite of or because of the blow out and in anticipation of a UConn victory against Q.

Tennessee, Baylor, Louisville, South Carolina, Notre Dame, TAMU, Oregon, and DePaul all played on Friday afternoon/early evening (terrible time from an attendance viewpoint). Look for ALL of these sites to show a large uptick tomorrow (Sunday afternoon).

Well, that's kind of what I was implying--spoiled fans, that have become apathetic. Stanford has gone Elite 8 and Final 4 the last two tournaments. Exciting players like McCall, Samuelson and McPhee. If I was a Stanford fan and I lived reasonably close by, I would want to show up for Tourney games.

Yes, UW definitely saw a big spike in attendance fueled largely by Plum's great season and chase of the scoring record. Attendance not surprisingly cratered this year, following all of the contributing players from last year departing and the team only went 1-17 in conference. What a difference a year makes.

I'm gonna look at Oregon St. home attendance in recent years. They tailed off a little bit after leading the conference the previously 3 or 4 years I believe.

Oregon St. average home attendance (rounded off):

'18 4980
'17 4080
'16 4100
'15 4190
'14 2050 (that was the first year they were competitive under Rueck; the previous year was about 1/2 the attendance for a cruddy team)

I swear I kept hearing it claimed that Oregon led the conference in attendance this year, but looking at home attendance OSU still led the conference for the 4th year in a row.

Actually it's not. Friday attendance has been better than Saturday for the 3 years I've been tracking -- 20% higher in fact. And the bump to Sunday has not been huge -- about 10%.

I would also note that some schools do run into Spring Break overlap, limiting the number of students on campus.

Actually Sunday attendance was a smidge lower than Friday.
Friday = 5591
Sunday = 5526

Lou, Ore, TAMU were up about 10%
SC down about 10% and Bay nearly 20%

The after 9 tip on a Sunday did not help SC attendance numbers. However SC still had over 10,000. VA coach and player said it was the loudest place they have played in.

Thanks to UConn and a surprisingly vocal Quinnipiac contingent Monday attendance matched Saturday, and was up 4% compared to last year's Monday games.

Storrs attendance soared from 6.2k to 9.0k, and FSU went from 3.5 to 4.1. All other sites were down vs Saturday.

Final tally
FRI = 5591 | SUN - 5526
SAT = 4556 | MON = 4579

1st Round avg = 5074 (+12% vs 2017)
2nd round avg = 5052 (+5% vs 2017)
