We are ranked #3 in the land at just shy of 78%. I wonder if any past team has been that high?
Napheesa at 22-24! I'm guessing that Mo/Breanna and Lou are above 80%. Gabby jumping [!]
from mid-40's to plus 70!! Is there anybody who is a poor shooter on free throws?

Our Free Throw guru Olde Coach...he of the Free Throw Thesis]must be smiling.

Agreed. And most of the mechanics of the current team are quite simple, as he recommended. Especially Lou, every time she takes a shot, to me it looks like the attitude is "...done this before, I know how it goes. Throw it in and let's get on with the game." which tickles me pink.

No need to guess, just download the stats spreadsheet. You'll find Breanna at 81.3%, Mo at 87% even, Saniya and Lou at 85.7%. Of those with significant numbers of FTA, Gabby is at 68% (great improvement!)

Makes games even easier, and makes other teams pay when they choose fouling as a strategy to deal with the Huskies' length and talent.

Current rate would be a new record for Uconn - current record is .765 in the 2011/12 season. The individual single season record is Sue Bird at .942 on 98-104. To be considered you have to average 2 free throws per game, so while Collier could be in that conversation, she needs to up the number of shots per game before it would be considered.

Just mentioning that name makes me nostalgic and a little sad.
I counted on his weekly skiing tips.

Your description of Lou shooting free throws is perfect.
There was something about the way she shot her free throws that caught my eye but didn't quite know what it was.

.942? Wow. That's smokin'. Most of us couldn't do that from five feet.

Awesome. Is that also a D1 wcbb record?

The NCAA record is .964 (80-83) and the career mark is .920 - Sue's career mark is a paltry .892 - also the Uconn record.

from five feet anywhere around the rim is the hardest shot in the game... I use to win with that shot in a game of HORSE #bankshot

The other FT technique I like is Collier's. She catches the ball from the ref, eyes the ball, then the rim, and shoots. No dribbles, no spinning the ball in her hands. Aim and shoot.

And they sometimes go in with the ball not getting anywhere near the rim and only slightly disturbing the net. It's that fabled perfect precision free throw that even better FT shooters (like EDD) manage to hit often. I think KLS may one day scrape up against 90% shooting for a season, which is not a common thing at UConn.

I always believed that foul shooting is strictly attitude and muscle memory. It's the one shot that you'll continue to shoot your entire career, one that you've taken thousands of times in the same way from the same spot on the floor or driveway, and one you know you're going to make before the shot is actually taken.

KISS, OC and I spent hours discussing this along with my friend and church member Larry Wise, former World Champion archer, author and archery coach. Keep It Simple and Steady. Both OC and Larry have worked with numerous Olympic competitors.

Mechanical simplicity using only a minimal number of large muscle groups and maintain the head in a steady position. This meant avoiding things like significantly bending over at the waist or using deep knee bends in the shot execution causing head movement all were to be eliminated or minimized. It was based on solid science and performance statistics from a variety of accuracy sports, such as, archery and golf. OC would be very happy but would insist that anything below 80-85% meant there was/is room for improvement.

Which is why EDD's percentage is so high - and Lou's career percentage will also (likely) be. Very very simple mechanics for both.

I like Collier's style, no style.;)

It's unusual not to bounce the ball at least once, but it works for Pheesa.

Neigh. I'll have to see it on replay.
Gabby just missed it as well... but Stewie normal makes hers cause he arch is higher, Nurse uses the backboard

Seems like in this day and age a lot of college players, men and women, slam those five-footers off the board instead of putting some arc on it. Gabby's a little bit that way. I do like to see them use the board, though.

After today's Memphis game, we are at .796, leading the nation.

Some reasons for the high percentage:

Stewie is at what I believe is a career high of .838.

Gabby is up about .300 from last season to a solid .765. That's stellar!

The rookies are very good: Lou at .875 and Napheesa at .929.
