Former UConn Athletic Director Lew Perkins, who led football to Division I-A, dies at 78

As others have said on the basketball forum, he was very important in moving football to Div I-A now known as FBS and getting the Rent built.

Ehh, I think he ended up being an order taker who got more credit than he deserved. Plus he left UConn in the lurch at the worst possible moment.

I'd say he's one of the best AD's we've had at UConn. He had vision and foresight to continue to UConn athletics in a position to succeed. Then Hathaway destroyed all of that in terms of football.

He left for Kansas, yuck. But he did a great job in Storrs.

Good not great. He doesn't get enough stick for botching the opening of The Rent.

Rest in peace Lou! He was a key to moving us forward. A bigger than life personality who had a vision. Many thought he was brought here to kill football, He understood football was the rain maker then and even more so today. Was he perfect no but who is. He did his best to make Husky Athletics better while he was here.
