That's what get for jumping the gun without looking at the video first. I picked my best starting 5 from the last 4 decades, instead of decade by decade..dumb ass

1 Chris Smith (I know Kemba is THE man but I fell in love with UConn basketball because of Smitty)
2 Ray Allen/ RIP Hamilton
3 RIP Hamilton/Ray Allen
4 Rudy Gay
5 Emeka Okafor

6th Caron Butler or Kemba (since I chose Smitty)

I thought we had to pick one player from each of the last 4 decades plus a wild card?

2020s- Clingan (C). The most dominant player of the last 4 years and it’s not close. Easiest choice.
2010s- Kemba (PG). Had the most dominant individual run in UConn history. Second easiest choice.
1990s- Ray (SG). Best bball player to ever go to UConn.
WC- Rip (SF). Second best bball player to ever go to UConn.
2000s- based on the above selections that leaves a PF from the 2000s. We need a stretch 4 to pair with Clingan so that means either Caron or Rudy. I’ll go with Caron because he’s a better defender.

A different route
5. Emeka
4. Rudy
3. Rip
2. Ray
1. Jalen Adams

i would just like to see see how good he would have been if he had a chance to play with guys capable of playing at or even above his level
If he got almost 200 assists in 32 games in 2016-17 Playing with a team of misfits
I would think he would be close to double that with top players. Plus getting to the hoop against the defenses opponents needed to employ would have been layup drill. I couldn’t even imagine an opposing coach trying to prepare for that team .
Now getting those guys to play D except EO would be Calhoun’s job. But that team would average triple figures .

RIP
Ray
Yell
DC

If we go with an 8-9 man rotation, then I'd have Okafor, Butler, Gay and Newton off the bench.

You know we've been lucky when it pains me to not have Napier, Nadav, Cliff, Sanogo, Lamb, Hawkins, Dyson, Stanley, Sheffer, Freeman, El-Amin, AJ, Vital... it just keeps on going.

What's also impressive is the depth at every position the alums and program have. It was first dominant guards, then dominant big men and now, a combo of talent all over the court.

The first 4 is hard to debate, not really sure you can. Some don't want Yell at the 4, but he might be the most dominant Uconn player ever.

Mek or Clingan at the 5 is the tough call. Mek player of the year caliber vs DC best defensive big in the country with two of the greatest defensive tournament games in Uconn history. Mek has a few more post moves but not much. DC can recover and guard the 3 point line in today's modern game. DC has more length and size. Hard to choose.

I went with DC just because off the floor space he eats up. He, Yell and Kemba are great defensively. Not that Ray and RIP are horrible on the defensive end, but they could press out on the wings more and not worry so much about being beat with DC and Yell anchoring down low.
Okafor, in fact, may be my favorite Husky (with Ray). He was an amazing shot blocker (and more), but DC must just look like a wall when guys drive inside.

I didn't want to include any players from the past two championship teams, although it felt weird not taking Clingan, Sanogo, CV, etc.
Those teams were much, much greater than the sum of their individual parts. At the time, I thought the 22/23 team was the best college basketball team I'd ever seen, in terms of working as a unit. Well oiled machine and all that. But then the 23/24 team took that formula to a whole 'nother level. Not sure there's been a college team in my lifetime that I thought worked together as seamlessly as our most recent group. In my mind, those two teams can't be broken into individual parts.

So here's my team of my favorites for each position from the late '90s through the KO era. Obviously, each of these players is represented by their play in their time as a starter on the team.

Starters
Emeka
Caron
Sticks
Kemba
Ray

Bench
Amida
KFree
Whaley
Ricky
Rip

Filling out the Roster
Thabeet
Bazz
Giffey
