The basic formula: rating the nation’s million-dollar-and-up coaches by career winning percentage, tourney appearances, Final Fours and national championships (we also considered service time, basing tournament appearances and outcomes against the number of chances a coach has had to get there). Comparing the final results to salary shows who’s providing the least bang for the buck (or, for that matter, the most: that prize goes hands down to Jim Boeheim, the veteran coach who has taken Syracuse to the big dance in 31 of his 36 seasons as he closes in on 900 career wins, all for a measly $1.2 million).

Looks like we have another t-shirt coming.

Though it was worded awkwardly, he was saying that Jim Boeheim was the best deal since he was only making $1.2M.

Calipari is one thing. Crean, OK. What is Travis Ford doing on a list of highly paid coaches? Did he do anything at UMass? Has he done anything noteworthy anywhere? Some guys just get a reputation as a good coach based on absolutely nothing. Like Dave Wannstedt.

Did you read it? It said most over paid coaches. Bang for the buck they are making. Travis Ford is way over paid for what he's delivered. Make sense now?

I did read it. The question is why is he making that money in the first place. I don't question why he's considered overpaid.

Oh, got it. I agree. Maybe Boone Pickens is as stupid as he is rich. :)

Could Kentucky fans be any more delusional? The blind following reminds me of Germans and Hitler. Wait, wasn't their iconic historical figure named Adolph and wasn't he a racist?

I look at guys like Boone Pickens and other multigazillionaire superfans/alums and wonder how I would behave if I had that kind of money.

There is nothing that skips the record (for the kiddies reference to something called 'vinyl') and brings the party to a crashing halt like an ill-advised Hitler reference.

I was listening to a podcast with Steve Kerr and he spoke pretty convincingly and positively about Calipari. Kerr said Calipari is simply doing what's within the broken rules system and you can't blame him for that (I say assuming THIS TIME he's figured out the rules, or a way to comply with them or cynically remain above them by being at Kentucky).

Then Kerr went on to say that Calipari had some very well thought out ideas about how to improve the system. Calipari suggests one-and-done players should only be eligible for shorter term contracts and less money. So if you've played one year of college ball your max guaranteed portion length is 2yrs and if you've played 2yrs your max length is 3 etc.. And make the salary scale skewed so that players that compete more years of college make more money (hmm kind of like almost any other occupation where advanced degrees are valuable!). Would make both the college and pro games better. I'm far from a Calipari fan, but these ideas make a lot of sense.

For example, we are hoping the market makes the determination that more college would be better for AD in long term, but because the draft is a guess teams will risk creating a bust by enticing guys out too early. The example Kerr used was McAdoo at Carolina who with 1-2 add'l college years would blossom into a star and be much more NBA-ready and more of an NBA sure thing.

How's that for hijacking the thread!

Combine this article with the earlier-posted one that compared salary-per-game and median income of the fanbase, add improvement to the university's overall profile and/or donation levels during coaching tenure, and I'm not so sure that Boeheim remains the hands down winner.

Oliver Purnell at $1.8M(?!?!?!) should be #1-5 on this list.

Billy Donovan shouldn't even be near this list, last 2 Elite 8 meltdowns aside.

I read those comments by Calipari before the tournamnet started. There's a thread somewhere with the interview/article ( can't recall). I agree and think that may a route to explore. Of course, your boys will be ready for college before anyone can even get this on the table in front of the NBA.
