Happened in a game last week for me...

If my team scores on the wrong basket (ie an accidental tip in), the other team gets 2 points. Got it

But who is credited the 2 points? Last player to touch it on the other team? No one?

Rule 5, Section I, part D of the 2014-15 NBA Rule Book

d. A field goal accidentally scored in an opponent’s basket shall be added to the opponent’s score, credited to the opposing player nearest the player whose actions caused the ball to enter the basket

Wow, I always thought it was the last offensive player to touch the ball. Probably because it typically is a tap in situation the last player to touch the ball is the closest.

I like that the rule tries to give credit for the offensive player fighting for the ball. Good rule!

In the nba usually a player close by is savvy enough to raise their hand after the ball goes in and they usually get awarded the points.

While that is the correct NBA rule, high school rules are actually different. NFHS rule 5-2-3 states "If a player scores a field goal in the opponent's basket, it is not credited to a player, but indicated in a footnote."

The answer to your question depends on what set of rules your game is being contested under.

Not quite coaching at the NBA Lakers, haha. Definitely NFHS rules! Thanks
