The optimist would say that a strong UCONN showing in NYC and at the Rent would go a long way in showing what a deep, loyal fanbase we have. A fanbase with a terrific NYC presence and a sellout/near-sold out Rent to watch a winless football team would go a long way to turning around the negative perception of the UCONN fanbase.
Dooley, it would be nice but it won't happen. Considering the circumstances we'll get a fair cowd at the Rent, 30000 maybe, but no better. The 6 hour block is another piece of silliness that people try and spin...This isn't the Wednesday night lineup on ABC where they stick some show about aliens between two hits. The college basketball tv audience isn't sticking around to watch football, and the football audience isn't tuning in early to watch an early season basketball game that starts during dinner...UConn fans might do that but even they will be split since there are a chunk of our hoop fans who really think we should just drop football entirely and rejoin the CYO league. this was a small time move by our AD. No major program, and no even major-wannabe would have taken this deal. Not one. Warde is hurting the football gate, though he lucked out in the sense that the team is awful so it won't be as bad as it could have been, he's announcing to the world that UConn doesn't care about football (just what the Big 10 and 12 and the ACC want to hear, I know) and that we're small time because we'll even program against ourselves if it means we get to play a mid-level ACC team...Yes that would be nice but a strong showing in TV Ratings for a 6 hour block of UConn programming is far more important.
