For a close NC game, it goes down as the most anticlimactic one I can ever remember. After a flurry of trading baskets, there were just 3 made shots during the last 5 minutes of the game, 2 by Houston and one by Florida (granted a big time 3 by WC Jr to tie the game). Neither team could get anything going offensively during the last two and a half minutes of the game, with Houston having 19 seconds to tie or win the game but doesn't even get a shot off. Ugh! Up to that point it was a fun to watch two very athletic teams go at it. Who knows what might have happened if our guys had just an average shooting game against FL, which could have easily been a double digit UConn win. They actually played some very good D that game. I'm inclined to think that Houston would have given our ball handlers fits, but who knows. The fact is our shooters, Karaban, Ball and McNeeley missed so many open looks against a team they just couldn't afford to do that against. Even having one of their worst shooting games of the season we lost by just 2 points. The tarnished silver lining is we were able to land the perfect combo guard they needed for next season by not still playing in the tournament. Though I'd trade that for having a shot at the 3-peat. They wouldn't have had to face UF in the second game if they didn't have some of their horrible losses putting them in the 8-9 game. Anyhow, Congrats to the Gators who were the best team at closing out games during winning time. WC Jr is quite a player who knows how to win.
