Jet blue out of NYC about $ 275 RT. Fly out Fri Night, return Tues night

book something about 1 hour outside of NO now and save thousands, it's what I did in 2004

every decent room in NO is going to be expensive, even if you book today

PS: don't forget to buy trip insurance

it worked in 2004, what you talking about?

and I'm talking about the potential to save thousands while risking the cost of trip insurance

I like to plan things out

Here's what you do if you want to plan a trip to the Final Four in New Orleans. You plan it because you want to go to the Final Four and you want to go to New Orleans because it's a fun place for a few days. You don't do it with expectations that UConn will be there. If they are then it's a HUGE added bonus. Just don't expect it because then it will never happen.

I will admit that we planned a trip to the Final Four in San Antonio in 2004 about 8 months ahead of time. But we were going whether UConn was there or not.

Interesting. For the 2003 Final Four in New Orleans there were lots of hotel rooms available to the general public. I reserved a room at the Intercontinental for about $165 a night, which I thought was pretty cheap. I had to pay up front for 3 nights. They must have changed the policy after that because in 2004 in San Antonio it was impossible to find rooms (I got very lucky finding a room on the Riverwalk but that's another story) and ever since then hotels even in inexpensive places like Indianapolis have been ridiculously expensive. I just thought maybe it was because New Orleans has so many hotel rooms compared to some of these other cities. I can't believe the NCAA could book every hotel room in New Orleans like they've done in these other cities the last few years. Plus there are lots of independent hotels in the French Quarter that I bet will have rooms and they can't all possibly charge $500/night.
