Good post.It sounds like the students want Paige, and they were adamant. You’ve got to give the people what they want! I would imagine the student section for home games will be packed. Just a sophomore, and she’s already a BWOC.
She‘s box office BIG time. Fans of most teams UConn will visit this season want to see Paige live. She’s already proven she’s worth the price of admission. UConn draws and travels well anyway.Good post.
Can you blame them? Seriously. They, just like most of us, were relegated to watching this team on computers or local TV. Either way, not live. Not in an arena. Not with the noise, the body heat, the hot dogs or popcorn. Not the thump, thump, thump of the ball on the hardwood. They have a player that some of them probably now have had the opportunity to see on campus, in class, in the bookstore and just around... somewhere. Wearing her glasses so maybe they don't even recognize her. And she's famous and has a list of accomplishments a yard long. And none of them has ever seen her play live and be able to root for her. Now they can. You bet your sweet bippy they want her.
And she hasn't experienced any of that either. Yeah, they want her. And you can also bet your sweet bippy she wants them, too.
Yeah, I imagine that whenever the Huskies hit the road, the partisans will be waiting to pounce on Paige. Every missed shot, turnover, errant pass, or being out hustled for a RB or loose ball. She seems to have the temperment to ignore it and focus on doing her thing. She‘s box office BIG time. Fans of most teams UConn will visit this season want to see Paige live. Geno calls it “The Circus.” That makes him the ringmaster. Everyone loves the circus. His pregame pressers are well attended by the local media. Paige is going to be in demand by the media again this year, especially after winning every award she was eligible to win. Paige is taking all of this attention like a duck to water.
There's a video on YouTube where Paige is being hassled by the crowd at a road game while she was in High School. I think it was her Senior year and she quieted them fairly quickly by leading her team to a giant lead in the first quarter. She isn't bothered by the heckling, she seems to use it as a motivator to get her juices going.Yeah, I imagine that whenever the Huskies hit the road, the partisans will be waiting to pounce on Paige. But haven't UCONN and Geno ALWAYS been a receptacle for envy and smoldering inferiority wherever and whenever thay show up at a rival gym?
Make no mistake about it, there will be hecklers ( jealous losers) who get no measurable amount (beyond measure) of joy booing and cat-calling opponents. Opening up a can of “Whup Ass” usually quiets then down. Hard to cat-call an opponent when your team is down by 20 in the first half. There's a video on YouTube where Paige is being hassled by the crowd at a road game while she was in High School. Along with the hardcore hecklers, I think most away crowds will also have a significant number of fans who will appreciate the artistry of Paige's game.Make no mistake about it, there will be hecklers ( jealous losers) who get no measurable amount (beyond measure) of joy booing and cat-calling opponents. When UConn played Nevada-Reno the majority of the crowd did appreciate the Husky's. Not only did Gabby get a lot of applause, but Kia put on a good show and they showed that they approved of it.Along with the hardcore hecklers, I think most away crowds will also have a significant number of fans who will appreciate the artistry of Paige's game.
I attended two men’s Big West Conference games in the Lawlor Events Center in the early 90’s. Nice arena, civil fans and a great atmosphere to watch a game. Enjoyed both trips to Reno to watch Pacific play. Unlike UCSB which was one of the worst. When UConn played Nevada-Reno the majority of the crowd did appreciate the Husky's.
