What do you think? Fla seems a little tight lately and Pitts has been playing well. I'm hoping it's fla. But it is a tough matchup for any 1 seed.

Florida is on our side of the bracket. If UConn wins tonight that will start to matter. PITT all the way to knock them out.

It's Pitt. Can you expect them to do well in a tournament? They shrivel up when the pressure is on.

Pittsburgh has been a disappointment in every NCAA tournament that I can remember and I'm really old. Frankly I was surprised that they beat Colorado. I have nothing against them. They have been a great regular season team and a very good Big East Tournament team but they have been consistently disappointing in the NCAA's. By the way, Pittsburgh is the only team in the top 30 that has not beaten a top 25 team. They are 0-5.

The more college hoops I watch the more convinced I am Ollie did a great job this year. If he gets to the Sweet 16 about as good as possible.

Almost every team I watch looks bigger, longer, and stronger than us. Thankfully the incoming players next year will address that. But wow. The difference between a Nolan and these Pitt/Florida big men? WOW. Do they come in that big and strong or does our strength and conditioning program gotta improve?

I agree with Kenny Smith's great analysis at the half:

Florida (on D) is very tight so when Pitt gets inside, they either have to take the shot or pull it out.

Well, Pitt is not boxing out, they are standing underneath the basket, they look slow, FL is on fire. It looks like Pitt is being Pitt in the NCAA. About to go 0-6 against Top 25.

pitt is a typical case of a coach who recruits as he sees the league, repeat with same type players and doesn't see the full picture
nova, Marquette are also in this situation.
I understand that you need to be successful in the league but you need a mix of size shapes and forms to match-up-because of defections UConn falls into this category this year.

Can you imagine if we played Florida this year? No chance we could win.

In some important ways I am delighted that SPitt is no longer in our conference. Year after year I gauged Spitt's strength and capabilities upon how hard they played against the Huskies. Couple that with conference loyalty when picking brackets and....Well....They busted my brackets more consistently than almost any other team..

Now I can pick them to bounce out in the round of 32 with confidence, accuracy and a light heart.

That's why I said I think Ollie has done a great job.

Yeah I'm just busting balls. One thing I do agree on is that I am looking forward to increasing our size and athleticism next year. We have been undersized in the backcourt going on five years now at least.

Like where I usually pick the rest of the ACC to make their exit.

Do they come in that big and strong or does our strength and conditioning program gotta improve?

We clearly need to improve. Hopefully the new guy is allowed to push that improvement on our basketball team.

Pittsburgh failed to crack 50 in both of their Tournament losses this season. Pittsburgh hatred aside, it's a chore to watch that team play.

Don't like fla. But really dislike the Pitts. Luv the fact we beat the gators.

If not for the PC collapse last night, I believe the ACC would have been down to just Cuse and UVA.

I remember seeing these pictures earlier in the season, highlighting Florida's strength & conditioning program: http://imgur.com/a/mAUfE.

So you are a "fool me twice+" sort of guy. Heh.

Yeah, how did we win?

Living in Pgh, I'll take the other perspective...

1. Any time Pitt is in the tourney - which is all but one in Dixon's 11-year reign - means less time sportstalk hosts spend on the Steelers (whom I can't stand).
2. There's no NBA here (nor should there be), but it's funny to hear yinzers get bent out of shape that any journalist is spending one second on talking/writing about basketball.
3. Even discounting our lost APR year, Dixon's been to the tourney more than our Huskies since 2004. 10 NCAAs and one CBI.
4. Their fans are more understanding to our plight than every other OBE defector.
5. The ZOO really is kinda awesome for a team with zero championships (and unlike Cuse, fans don't mention their two Helms banners).
6. I wrote a post earlier today on PantherLair encouraging them, which outlined that it took JC 11 years to get to the FF (not counting Northeastern) and the six times UConn lost to a lower seed during JC's reign (four as a 1 or 2 seed). Based on sheer talent levels, an argument could be made that Dixon has done more with less because we got knocked out ourselves a few times by much less talented teams.

Yeah, three SS and one EE in 11 years isn't much when you've been a four seed or higher five times. And Dixon has his faults (micromanaging, not giving talented frosh enough minutes, soft OOC scheduling, etc.), but Pitt could do a whole lot worse. Plus Dixon was expecting Stephen Adams to still be there this year and they lost their sixth man halfway through the season.

I know some of y'all hate them for reasons beyond just hoops, but Dixon has a formula that works pretty well. He's got the highest winning percentage all-time of anyone with 200 games under their belt. At some point he'll bust through.

That's all. I root for them when it doesn't have a negative effect on UConn. I don't expect you guys to understand.

But in my defense, I also bring up KEA thumping his chest on the scorer's table at every chance.

(as I'm writing this, can't help but wonder... why does everyone else look so much better vs. Ville than we do?)

Every year I pick Pitt in my bracket to make the Final Four. Every year they let me down. I don't understand how they don't do better, especially considering their style.

I think I smell a hanging:p

They have not been able to get many NBA bound players and you generally kind of need them in this tourney. Patterson and Zanna could get a cup of coffee. They play a very not exiting boring brand which keeps them in games and wins quite a bit, but I think they are in danger of becoming BC or Wake. Duke and NC are for them having a bad year so far and they gonna reload with NBA'ers next year and beyond. If Dixon leaves they are screwed and he could be offered something higher profile. Pitt fans must live in fear of that.
