Along with the 2012 FF being special for the four #1 seeds getting there for only the second time, it has an extra special quality. This is the first time that four teams that have previously won NCs will be at the FF, and three of them have won titles during the 2000s. Stanford's last title goes back 22 years, but they have been in NCs recently.

Obviously the early years could not have had this happen, as 1987 would have been the first time it could have possibly happened. 1997 featured 3 teams with NCs and one that would win one 4 years later, and last year Texas A&M won as the only previous non-NC titlist in the group. But this year has a special cachet that I hope WCBB publicists plug like crazy.

Careful - someone's going to complain that this tight-knit group is some kind of exclusive sorority and their exclusionary history is bad for women's basketball.

And that person is me. I wanted UConn up against NW Alabama Tech Substitute Teacher's College, the Podunk School for the Intestinally Impaired, Toodrunktogetup State in the FF. Like 99% of BYers, I believe a complete wipeout of UConn opponents in the FF is infinitely more satisfying than a scary slugfest like the 2010 Stanford game.

The problem I have with that example is not that it was a slugfest, but that it was an UGH!-fest. I was embarrassed for women's basketball.

Well, we had our debate about that at the time. Personally, I love a defensive battle between the two best defensive teams in WCBB. That was a solid part of their reputation, and an offensive showcase to me would have been more embarrassing. When the Huskies blew away their adrenaline and calmed the nerves in the 2nd half, they put on a spectacular show for a long part of the game.

I remember Stanford and us in 2010. If Stanford had played a bit better in the 1st half when we couldn't do anything, they could have taken us. Put another way, our defense in the first half of that game saved our bacon. I will always remember Jayne Appel going 0-12. Happy we got that win

Not as embarrassed I was for men's basketball last year. And they have a 50 year/multi million dollar head start.

I do, too, but it's going to be Baylor and ND.
Im kind of with you on this one... but I wouldnt be surprised if UConn won against ND but Baylor will still win it all (so my brackets say)

Geno's never lost in a championship game. Would you rather have the team lose in the semifinal or break his perfect record?

do I want UConn to win it all "heck yeah" but if I was a betting man, my money would be on Baylor. Im sure many of you wouldnt be surprised if Baylor won it all.

Fortunately, most of us don't bet our homes on obvious stuff. Last year we would have all lost our shirts and McMansions on UConn vs Baylor before the Elite 8 and UConn vs Stanford afterward going into the FF. Sometimes funny things happen on the way to posting on your local forum in early April.

With all the talk of the 4 #1's getting to the final four, it seems not to have been mentioned that the elite-8 was exclusively 2's and 1's
When was the last time that happened?

technically, 20 years (1992). First NC was 1990. 11 Final Fours, 5 straight.

Oops, I stand corrected, but for Card fans it must feel more like 22. Luck against the Bears on Sunday, and I'm having this feeling there, though it may just be the jalapeno cheese sandwich I had for lunch.
