First night questions

My 12 year old daughter is lobbying me to go. I know it opens up at 6:00 pm but given that we are the reigning NCs, should we come earlier? Any tips or suggestions?

I haven't been in a few years, but I think it's first come/ first serve with seating and there is a fanfest that starts at 5.
