Here is what I saw from section 220. Row G. Hard to take away too much from an exhibition against an outsized and overmatched D2 opponent, but I'll give it a shot.

Big Red is my immeduiate neighbor to my left. Still loves to start the cheers.
The crowd was sparse (50% capacity?), but gave KO a very nice ovation as he came onto the court for the first time. Great to see Ricky Moore on the staff. Trob was also in attendance.

Starting lineup was Bazz, Boat, Deandre, TO, and Giffey. Sluggish first half with AIC going into the locker room with a 1 point lead. UConn came out looking much better in the second half. Boat had 11 points in the first 5 minutes of the second half and singlehanedly created a double digit lead. What he lacks in size he more than makes up for in heart and athleticism. When this team struggles to score I can see Boat taking charge to try to break them out of a drought.

Omar is a Stud in the making. Has that Ray Ray star quality about him. Honest. Scored 24 off the bench tonight in a variety of ways. Has a nice outside shot, plus a midrange game and goes to the hole well. Plus he rebounds well due to to his size and looks to rebound whenever possible. No doubt about it that he will be a star. The only question is how soon.

Bazz looked ok but you could tell he was still a little rusty. I do think he will be a great leader for this young squad.

TO played a decent overall game. scored enough, grabbed enough boards and made a few nice passes. There seems to be a bit of a focus on running the halfcourt offense through him.

Deandre played pretty well. I think he had 8 points and he really runs the floor well for a 6'8" guy. He simply looks more poised and comfortable out there. I expect that he will be a much different player than we saw last season.

Phil Nolan. Live body and lots of heart. There seemed to be a lid on the hoop for him tonight though. Effort was great but he picked up a few fouls simply because he was a little out of position. I like his motor though.

Giffey: Same game as always. Good hustle, clogs passing lanes on D. Basically looked just like he has the past 2 years.

Tolksdorf, played 3 minutes. Good hustle. Hard to tell much more than that.

RJ Evans. Plays hard. Built like a fullback, goes to the hole strong.

Wolf: Looks very tall in street clothes.

AIC got quite a few buckets on back door cuts. I am sure KO will focus on that. Ball movement was decent, not alot of points in the paint though. I think AIC actually had more points in the paint despite having a 6'5" center.

Chemistry seems good. Gotta tighten up the D and run more. Nice to see the new guys. Student section was great. The rest of the crowd was pretty sparse and pretty average.

Thanks, Huskybass. Agree with you on everything, although I saw the game online.

First impression is UConn is skinny. Going to be hard to find the beef to compete when the BE starts.

Agreed. TO is the only frontcourt player with any sort of beef. Daniels, Giffey, Nolan and Wolf are all slender. Even more reason for this team to run and not look to grind it out.

D2 big men are usually slightly beefy 6'4"-6'7" guys. They tend to have more skill and less athletic ability. As our big men develop a little they will close the gap. No shame in a raw, frosh big man getting schooled by more mature D2 guys in the early going. As soon as Nolan learns to use his physical gifts properly with correct positioning, he'll look much better. Effort is there.
