I thought Hill slid 1 yard short. And then there was PF against BYU. Then it was first and 10. Did anyone else see it him short? If more than 1 other saw it that way, then Diaco should have challenged the spot. I think he would have won. Rookie mistake or did I see wrong?

Spotting on a slide is different in college than the NFL. He had the first down.

Well, the referee spotted it well behind the 1st down marker, so I agree with the OP that it should have been 3rd and 17.

The referee actually spotted it short of the 1st down. I don't know how they have a first down after the penalty.
